Proud new CJ-7 owner here!

Still have my JK, but welcomed a new member to my Jeep family...my 1984 CJ! I have always wanted a CJ and I finally pulled the trigger on one! It's got a 258 with a 4 speed. 84000 original miles. Working a few bugs out though. Mainly gauges that don't work. Oil pressure and temp. Any advice or help is welcomed. Thanks! Hope you like it!

Nice CJ. The light bar reminds me of the one I had years ago.

Does your fuel gauge work? Wiring on the CJ's is started to show its age. I replaced my harness a few years ago but it was toast.

The fuel gauge was the only one that did work! They all work now....I fixed them. I took the light bar off because I didn't want to replace all the old lights. I think I can save the harness....just having to take my time testing/fixing.

Wow. Someone must have fixed it because they are notorious. I didn't have one for years and let's just say I ran out of gas more than once.

I don't blame you on the light bar. Just not my thing. I think a couple on the bumper and maybe some on the windshield frame is plenty.

An updated pic. Painted the wheel centers black, bed lined the tub, and it's 50# lighter from all the junk PO added wiring.

Great looking CJ. You going to put the other seats in, or just leave it with a driver's seat?

Cool CJ. I miss my 84 CJ7. My kids (now adults and FMF docs) recently told me the best memories they have is the fun we had off roading with gringo (our dog).

yeah..of course all that power is not needed in most offroad situations but 90% of my green cj7's driving is on the street. It takes me back 40 years to my hotrod days

Just gotta do what I have in mine, stroked 327 with 307 gears. It crawls and still feels like a DD but I know what is under the hood. Hahaha

Sorry I didn't mean to say stroked. Don't know why I did. I was told by a much Previous Owner who first put the CJ together got the engine from a CJ-7 which was all stock but the engine and everything that goes with it.

This previous owner said that it was a 327 from a 68 camaro and that he believes it has 350 heads on it. Now I haven't checked any casting numbers or anything for the heads or the block so I have no idea what the engine is. Only thing I know is the engine swap was done perfect because that is one of the few things that is perfect in my jeep (I hate previous owners).

I know that some 350 heads can improve the 327 and some can ruin the compression.

Not sure what I have going on but since the PO who put the engine in didn't seem like a total fool I would hope he improved the 327 not made it worse.

yeah casting numbers can at least tell you what it originally was..Of course the same block could have been rebuilt to either a 350,327 or even a 302..only difference is the stroke..350-3.48",327-3.25" and the 302-3.00"..all the 302's came with good heads because they were only available in the 67-69 z28's..different cc chambers as well as different size valves were available in the 327 and 350 so you can have desireable or undesireable in either one of them..chances are that the heads have not been altered so the casting numbers on them will probably be what they still are..
