LJ...Army and Air Force jeeps had cool markings "back in the day" .. I was Army so I got some Army decals but I think the older AF stickers are out there. Check Ebay. I suspect they are there, but back in WWII it was Army Air Corps. I can't recall when the Air Force was 'born'. Just do a search.

We have a neighbor with an "authentic" WWII Jeep. He has put a lot of time and money into it -- it looks great. The boys LOVE it!!

No he does not have any GI Joe toys
But he's had a fascination with WW2 aircraft since he was very young
He's 11 and can describe in great detail
WW2 aircraft and armament options

We wanted something to change the jeep up from the several other silver jeeps around
This design is a combo of the ones that were on some of the old planes and the Low Visibility ones on the current A10's

It's vinyl so I cam remove them when we get tired of them

Actually I figured I would catch crap from my friends about them but surprisingly
Most think they are pretty cool

Thanks for the compliments

If anybody wants some I'm sure the guy would be glad to make more

The ones sold by jeep are pretty neat but expensive. I think you will have a lot to choose from if you just google around. Check out Jimbox's profile...he has a nice set up.

My Sarge

I haven't seen any posts here for a while so I wanted to bring the thread back to life.

I had this vision in my head ever since I bought my '07 JKU in September as a tribute to Jeep's 70th birthday. I researched the markings and am trying to be authentic as possible (even though the vehicle was made 67 years after WWII ended).
I plan on painting bumper numbers and other markings (like tire pressure, etc.) as soon as I get stencils made.

Not all of them, but a camel can be the ultimate 4X4 vehicle in the desert.

Looks good but there was a lot more writing on the old guys. Go to MVPA.org and peruse the site. You'll find listings for repro graphics there if you want, but yours looks good.

I had to search a bit on there but found what I had in mind. I resto'd a Korean War Jeep several years ago. I used stencils but they have decals as well.

M38 JEEP SET

Look up and down the side of that page for other cool stuff not incl in the decal sets. Graphics for Tire Pressure, Gas fill, Check Battery Daily, etc.

If I had gotten the tan jeep I ordered I would have done the full set and it would have been very cool...

The Army Air Corps started out like a branch, similar to today's Army Aviation Corps. Then bombers and fighters came along, and the Army Air Force was born. My dad was in the Army Air Force. I'm pretty sure they were separate services by the time Korea came along - but I'm going by memory, NOT google.

Is that a 2012 JKU? Otherwise, your math is a tad off. Nice looking Jeep tho! What does the identification on the hood represent?

LOL - you are right about my math. War ended in '45 and my JK is an '07 so I should have said 62 years, good catch.

As for the numbers W-2009015-S, this is where I had fun doing the research:

W = War Department
20 = Reconnaissance Jeeps & Trucks
09015 = Last 5 digits of my VIN
S = Suppressed for radio

The last 5 digits was actually the Jeep's production number (for the first 99,999 vehicles and then it went to 6 digits) but I figured my VIN would work here.

As far as the "suppressed" designation; when I was doing my research I couldn't find a definition of what they meant. It didn't click until I remembered my first Jeep (a '59 Willy's Station Wagon). When I installed an AM/FM radio I would get a buzzing sound when I accelerated. I had to install spark arresters on the spark plugs to "suppress" the ambient electricity.

I don't think I'll go as far as a guy with a TJ who is actually tranforming his into an M38A1 look-alike but I'm having fun with the markings so far.

I enjoy finding out about my Jeep's ancestors, It's a work in progress.

Interesting. Back then, suppression would have been to decrease RFI with tactical comm, of course. Not much AFKN at the time. Now I'll have to go look at what dogface had on his old Jeep.
