2013 Sound System Help

I just had a new sound system installed in a '13 unlimited and I'm not thrilled with how it sounds. I was hoping some of the experts here could let share some experience that I can pass along to the shop.

I am running the following:

Factory 430N
Factory amp feeds:
Audio Control LC7i
JL Audio HD 900/5
JL Audio C3 Components
JL Audio C2 Coax
12" Audio Adire Brahma

The problem I have is the bass is far too boomy with no real punch. I get way too much bass guitar and not enough bass drum if that makes sense. The subwoofer is crossed over at 80hz. I have turned the Audio Control bass boost to zero. I was originally using a slot ported box but moved to a sealed box in order to tighten up the bass response. It helped some but not enough. Yes, it gets extremely loud, but just doesn't sound right.

Is this an issue with the dirty feed coming from the factory head unit?

By chance the audio control unit you are using...does it accept the bass knob option for use up front......im using thier lc2.....and adjust by the knob depending on what genre of music I am listening to

Yes, the Audio Control does accept a remote bass control. I am using the remote bass control on the amplifier.

the box that your using is it downfire ...or aimed at seat or trunk cover instead ...i am using a lc2 ....with a boston gt400m mono amp...at 2 ohm...wired to 2 single voice coil ba 10" subs in a sealed but downfiring box .....the knob gives me what i want depending on genre of music i am listening to at the time ....and i have it dialed in pretty well to support my multiple personality disorder in music .I have to say though...that audio control unit i am using ,as opposed to the one you are using is much less complex than yours .....and it does what it advertises imho....theres no more roll off at all when close to max volume .....

How large is your sealed box?

Hey - I have a pretty similar system on my JGC with a pretty similar problem -- LC7i, 5 channel amp. Boomy bass from a 12" speaker -- not tight punches. Loud but doesn't "sound right".

Did you ever get around to solving this issue?

It sounds like a problem with the amp tuning. Maybe the gain is set to high on your sub.
If you had it professionally tuned, make sure it is tuned at flat response. If it sounds too boomy at flat response, then your amp isn't tuned properly. Also, different people tune amps differently. So, maybe you need another amp tuner to tune your amp.

It sounds like a great system though. You can't go wrong with JL products.

Also, I would make sure your speakers are in phase and check the balance and fade. For example, if you set balance left, do you only hear the left speakers? If you fade rear, do you only hear the rear speakers.
Sometimes the installers mess those up. If any of these are wrong, including phase, your system won't sound right.
