430N, UConnect, And Bluetooth Streaming

There have been several threads related to problems/quirks with Bluetooth and UConnect.

Garmin Nav is not as good as GoogleMaps in my experience.

What I want is the ability to use GoogleMaps, and have the turn-by-turn directions play over the audio system via Bluetooth regardless of whether I'm streaming from my phone or listening to the radio (AM, FM, SAT), CD, iPod, etc.

I currently use an iPhone, and the GoogleMaps audio only plays if I'm streaming. As soon as I switch to radio, I lose the audio completely as the phone is still connected via BT.

Is what I want possible? I'm not married to the iPhone, and would frankly prefer a larger screen, like that available on the Galaxy Note.

This won't work because the phone would need to send a BT message to Uconnect that there are directions coming soon, then Uconnect would have to tell the radio "switch from the radio to BTSA mode for the coming directions" then go back to the radio mode when the directions are done. This would take too much time and most likely the directions would already have been said by Google maps.

Thanks for the reply. Is this a 430N/UConnect challenge only, or would it apply to any device?

I could swear I've seen this capability in the marketplace. . .

This feature would only be available on radios that are able to link up to the APP's on the phone and display them on the radio screen. The 430 doesn't do this and for Chrysler vehicles, I thing that there are a few models that have the 8.4 inch touchscreen that are capable of this but have not made it to the jeeps yet. Might be because they can't handle the abuse from off road driving.

Is there an easy way to identify which units would provide this functionality?

Ford SYNC has no problem doing this !!

Directions come thru as a phone call. Never asks to answer just cuts in gives directions and ends.

Sync doesn't do it, No BT hands free car kit has the ability to place calls. It is the bridge (or interpreter) between the phone and stereo system.
The phone itself is what places the simulated phone call when the directions come up and then sends the information thru a BT message to the car kit which then sends that information to the radio.

So, I have another issue/complaint about my 430N. When streaming Pandora via BT from my iPhone, the music "skips". This happens multiple times on each song. Maybe a buffering issue? It's not the phone. . .playing over the internal iPhone speakers works just fine.

Any ideas?

Well there is a lot of difference between playing audio thru the device speakers and streaming thru BT. So actually that isn't a good evaluation of the issue.
When you're listening to the device speakers it is a direct wired hook up. When you listen to the device and then stream the audio thru BT, there are packets being sent from the phone to the car kit. These packets can get interference and be dropped which is the skip that you hear.
Packets can get dropped by Wi-Fi signals, so you will want to make sure that you have Wi-Fi turned off on the phone. If it is already off, then try rebooting the phone itself by holding the home and power buttons till the Apple shows up on the screen then release them. The phone will now reboot. Give it another try.

Thanks for the tip on rebooting. No effect.

430N is terrible. The maps are nice, but the actual device is buggy and slow.

I wish I would of not paid for the option, gotten the 130 radio, installed a tablet with 4G data and called it a day.
