Another handheld thread

Ok, so I need a CB for my wheeling trips- I've come to accept this, but I really don't want to install a full radio in the Jeep. It's just one more thing to steal, wiring/antenna calibration is a PITA, and for my purposes I don't need the capabilities of a full radio.

I'm just looking for a decent 40 channel handheld that I can plug into the cigarette lighter and go. Don't need a ton of range; I just need to be able to communicate with others in the crew.

I'm looking at this. I grew up with CBs and about the only brands I'll trust are Cobra or Uniden (although, ironically, one of the best CBs we had on the farm was a little Radio Shack brand one :s). It's a little pricey (I can find it for cheaper I'm sure) but I'll pay for the Cobra name to get the quality unless someone knows of another brand that they have experience with and would recommend.

Thank you for any help in advance.

I like Midland's offering in this segment myself, but because of the bottom connector that allows for a standard antenna connection.
I'm sure that Cobra is very good as well.

I'd say read as many reviews as you can.

Why not get one of these? I had one when I lived in an apartment complex. I hid the junction box under the center console. I also had a quick release for the antenna. If you decide to go with something like this, get an external speaker.
