Any idea why Jeep leaves connections around the jeep??

Hi all. Recently installed and after market head unit and it made me pretty much rip apart most if the jeeps inner plastic shell. While doing this I found two electrical connections that seem to just exist. The first one was on the left hand side just below the instrument cluster behind the steering wheel, a grey colored connection doodad. The second was at the back of the jeep on the passenger side at the base of the roll bar (2012 JKUS). Again a grey colored connection doodad. Any ideas what options these would be used for?

Rather than make unique wiring harnesses for each configuration, Jeep uses one wiring harness that is good for anything and everything. For example... if you have a manual transmission, the connectors for an automatic transmission are hanging above the manual transmission. It costs less to make just one harness than multiple versions of the harness.

No idea what those connections are for, I'm not up on the JK's electrical system & available options that by now must include plug-ins for foot warmers.

Do you have the connectivity group option and do you have the factory subwoofer option? Because those features would be relatively close to the locations you're describing.

Yes I do have the connectivity package but not the subwoofer. Makes sense that the harness in the back is for the sub. Still lost on the dash harness.

Could be part of the wiring for the Premium Audio package, the amp is in the driver's footwell.

could be for the electric disconnects from the rubicon. almost all vehicle manufactures do this as it saves a lot of money having one harness for multi vehicles.

I would about bet that your right. I've got a JKUR and that's right about where my switches are for the lockers and sway bar disconnect.

That sounds like the connecter for the defroster and the windshield for the hard top. Did the one you worked on have a soft top, because then it would just lay there. That's where mine sits in the spring and summer when I take out the soft top.
