It should... because the switch is only allowing the power to run through it when it is switched to "on," so the light won't go on when its off... that third tab is for the light, so with a lit switch you essentially have two circuits, one is for the inverter, which is the ground you have, and the other circuit would be for the light in the switch, which would be the ground that you don't have. That needed ground completes the loop for the bulb circuit... it lit when you put the other wires on that third tab b/c you were completing the bulb circuit, but disconnecting the inverter circuit

let me know if it works! Otherwise we gotta re-think this

Cool. Now tell me why my cig lighter and aux don't work. Had this problem before this install.

Welll... Without any more info than that, I really couldn't tell you... what do you mean by aux? The other cigarette-lighter outlet?

have you checked the fuses? Had you messed with them at all previously? When you installed those Daystar switches, could you have accidentally cut a wire or knocked something loose?

If you have an electrical tester, you can trace the wires and find where the break is

I changed my 97 tan dash to an 03 agate dash. It came with an aux power and cig lighter. After I made the change the cig lighter worked but the aux didn't. It's not hooked up. A little while later the cig lighter stopped working. Checked all the fuses and they are good. The aux power I am going to hook up to the fuse box myself

well the only thing I can suggest is to check continuity along the whole length of the wiring with a tester, like this one: 90V - 1000V AC Non Contact Voltage Detector Tester Pen Stick, Voltage Detector

Your 97 cig lighter will not turn on unless the key is also on, it will have a fuse but will also have a relay that will go open and closed with the ign. If it is the same as my 99, then the relay is to the left of the steering collum near the big plug that has like a 100 wires to it, check this relay or rewire it like I did on mine so you can have power to the lighter all of the time.

Thanks for the info. Since I changed the dash to an 03 and have and Aux and cig lighter, I tapped into my rear wiper fuse. I dont have a hardtop so I'm not using it anyway.
