It should... because the switch is only allowing the power to run through it when it is switched to "on," so the light won't go on when its off... that third tab is for the light, so with a lit switch you essentially have two circuits, one is for the inverter, which is the ground you have, and the other circuit would be for the light in the switch, which would be the ground that you don't have. That needed ground completes the loop for the bulb circuit... it lit when you put the other wires on that third tab b/c you were completing the bulb circuit, but disconnecting the inverter circuit
