Question Audio Upgrade

Looking to upgrade my stock 2005 X sound system. Just want some suggestions on differnet systems and set ups. I'm on a student budget so mid ranged stereos are what I'm looking at.

Thanks,
Mike

what you should do is look around crutchfield.com for a head unit that you like and then go over to ebay and see what type of deals they have. good companies are alpine, clarion, pioneer.

as for speakers infinity has some nice products that are a god bang for your buck.

when it comes to subs there are a bunch of one out worth getting. i run and audiobahn sub that sounds fantastic.

you will need to get an amp if you plan on getting a sub. you get what you pay for with amps. you could have one of the top subs on the market but with a crappy amp it is not going to sound good at all.

I have a Pioneer deck (Head Unit). I replaced the stock speakers with 2x Pioneer 6.5" duals for the sound bar and 2x Pioneer 4x6" for the front. I added an alpine 12" sub in a sealed box and an MTX amp to drive it.

The system rocks for the money I spent. The pioneer speakers I think can be bought at Walmart as well as the deck. The sub was on sale at Circuit City and the enclosure was on sale at Crutchfield. All together I think I paid about $500 piecing it together.

Now If you have the money to go for premium speakers, I would go with POLK. I had them in my last truck. they were double the price and kicked serious ass with the same Pioneer stereo I am sporting now.

I have the sub behind the backseat with the speaker pointed to the front. Big difference. You can really feel the bass and I listen to hard rock.

GOOD LUCK!! If you look you can really piece something together and save a ton of money.

i have a pioneer p6900ub head unit, infinity kappa perfect components in the rollbar, infinity kappa 3-way's in the front, audiobahn 10" immortal sub in a sealed box and matching amp. i also have my ipod directly plugged into the headunit and i have a sirius radio built in. i saved over $650 my getting everything on ebay. although its a 10" sub it will still set off car alarms.

pioneer deh5900ib head unit.. custom 6x9 rear sound bar, stock soundbar went in front and a kicker L7 sub with kicker 2.450 amp..

Do not try to get good bass out of ur mid speakers. You will just waste money. I feel pretty safe saying its impossible to get good bass with the slim soundbar box.

If you want bass, get a sub.

Anyhow If you are on a budged, the first things i would recommend you do is get an aftermarket Headunit and get a sub. This way you can turn off the bass to your regular speakers so they are not sounding like crap trying to produce frequencies they cant. The sub will take care of those frequencies for you.

Later if you have left over cash, get better speakers all around.
I would also highly recommend shelf speakers or however you call them on top of the dash. Those make a big difference in voice. (Thats why i have my stock sound bar up front)
here is a pic of what i am talking about

Here is my setup

hey thanks for all the input, I think I'm gonna start with a aftermarket headunit, a sub, and an amp. Then work it way up from there as I save more money.

Thanks for all the help,
Mike

No matter what stereo you go with, be sure that it has a USB hook up. I have a 16gb thumb drive plugged into my Pioneed DEH-4000UB and have no need for OTA radio or CD's any more. Plus great sound quality and no skipping.

my headunit has a usb input that i use to plug my ipod in and i am able to control it from the headunit. works out nice. i ran a usb cable to my center console and i have it hooked up to an ipod dock mounted at the bottom. and i use one of the other inputs for my sirius radio.
