BASS900... worth it?

Subwoofer powered 900 Watt JEEP Corvette #BASS900 ce - eBay (item 270557353410 end time Apr-09-10 07:36:01 PDT)

I am thinking about this. they have a pic of it mounted to the back door of a jeep. I am just wondering what it sounds like and it if is worth it?

Anyone have experience with it?

I have the boss BASS1200 under my rear seat, and i love the thing, although i had it in for about 2 weeks and it has stopped working now, but i also haven't tried reconnecting everything yet, need to wait til the weekend... But anyways, great for a jeep, it doesn't hit the really lows very well, but the highs are LOUD, i love it.

either definitely looks interesting. I am and old school basehead. I had a 12" sub in the back with a amp under the rear seat. i took it out due to summer and weather and stuff.

So this thing looks like a good option. small space, powered. nothing super bass heavy. should sound good for some classic rock?

Will do. it has already shipped and should arrive early next week sometime. I am not sure if I will have a chance to put it in before next weekend or not. I will post up my review when I am done.

cool, i look forward to it! i may end up putting 2 of them in my JK 1 under each front seat. i doubt only 1 will be what i am looking for after seeing they are only running 2 15amp fuses. still post up though. i had a boss amp in the past that worked out very well for me.

The amp I just got rid of was a Boss amp. I was very please with it. I had it for 4 years or so. After totaling my truck in Feb (yay came back to Jeep family), part of the functionality was lost due to damage, but it still worked. Since I really wanted that specific feature, I decided to get rid of it. This bass900 has all the features I want and is decent priced. I've read some good/bad things about the bass1200 and I hope the 900 model doesn't suffer from the same issues that I read about the 1200.

From what I can tell, the number represents the wattage. The bass900 is an 8" with 900 watts of power (doubtful that it goes that high, at least until I install it) and the bass1200 is a 10" with 1200 watts of power.

I did some googling before buying and found 40+ reviews for the 1200. Overall it was rated 4.5/5 stars. Some of the bad ones were that the amp just dies or that it just stops working. There could be other contributing causes though.

Aenima540 stated his stopped working in this thread:
Subwoofer stopped working.

I didn't put 2 and 2 together before I had posted in that thread. It appears that he may have to send it off to have it repaired.

I have to say that I am disappointed and happy... here goes my rant.
It sounds great and is a great addition to the Jeep.
However, the unit goes into fault mode (red light) after about 2 minutes of play time (rough estimate). I was so excited to hear the sound from this. It really does sound good. BUT DANG! it doesn't work worth a flip.

I have contacted the ebay selling and I am waiting a response.
I will keep you guys updated.

Does it have adjustments for the gain and stuff? If it does, check and make sure your gain isn't cranked way up. That will easily overwork an amp and send it into protection mode.

it does have a gain adjustment. i will take a look and see how long it lasts. I timed it with the Ipod, and it cuts off right at 1:30 everytime.

Let me give that a shot and I will let you know soon.

no effect.

I tried turning it all the way down, mid, and high. Each setting produced the same result. It still goes into fault/protection mode righ around 1:30 each time.

I believe Infinity makes a similar setup...but they aren't very cheap.

I've had the infinity basslink pumping in my Jeep for over a year now, and haven't had a single issue with it. It's my second one. First was in an SUV that I sold. It's definitely worth the cash. I did an install write up for it in this forum that you can search for.

Just a quick updated. The ebay shop has given me the number for BOSS tech support. They also said if I need to return for exchange to let them know.

BOSS tech support: 800-999-1236

I will be calling later after all my stuff starts to settle down (on call working nights this week).

BLEH! I call the number, press 4 for tech support and it goes to voice mail. The VM box is full and then it goes back to the main menu. I tried multiple times after 3pm cst.

It could be a timing issue. I will try again tomorrow morning.

I wonder if Paypal will refund my money? LOL

Tech support finally answered today. With a brief description, he stated that it was an internal problem and needed to be returned.

I contacted the eBay seller and he is supposed to supply an RMA by EOD today.

I STRONGLY advise against purchasing a Bass900 or Bass1200. There were plenty of bad reviews on the Bass1200, but nothing on the Bass900.

Now you know... and knowing ... wait.. what?

I did some serious thinking about it. After all of the negativity about the bass1200, I just decided to cut my losses and see if they would give me a refund. They said yes. I shipped it off yesterday. It should arrive Monday and I hope to have my refund next week.
