Battery Master Switch and Push Button Ignition
First off, I know it's not a wrangler, but to me the concept seemed pretty much the same, and I couldn't pass up asking all the experts here on the forums for a little help.
My friend and I are restoring his dad's old '88 XJ (Wagoneer) and part of the old key is broken off in the ignition. Not only can you not use a key, but it won't turn back all the way to kill the engine. (We've just been pulling the wire off the ignition coil to shut it off).
We've already decided to place a toggle switch panel in the dash for the lights and other gizmos we're putting in it. We thought it would be cool, and quite beneficial, to rig up a "Master on/off" toggle switch for the battery and a push button ignition. That way we could just flip the battery on and off when we need to(otherwise it drains out over night because the key doesn't go any further than the accessory notch).
I was wondering what would be a good way to go about doing this. I know that if you don't use the right kind of wires they'll burn up in a heartbeat when exposed to too much current. Has anyone done a similar setup or have any links to tutorials on how to do something like this?
Thanks in advance!
