Bluetooth? Any point?

Looking at new CD players for the TJ and I'm really into the idea of syncing my phone with the stereo thru Bluetooth and having it play the conversation over the car speakers while muting the radio. I've used it in other cars and it's great. However I just don't imagine it would work well in the Jeep. I mean they give you a mic to clip on the sun visor, but is there anyway people are going to be able to hear me over the wind/road noise? Is anyone using this successfully, and if so what's your system include? Have you had trouble with people hearing you? Thanks!

I wish they'd work in a Jeep without the top on but wind noise pretty much defeats a remote microphone. My TJ is so noisy that even with the top on and windows up that I can barely even use my bluetooth earpiece and not even then if I'm on the highway... it's too noisy for people to be able to understand me at speeds much over 30-40 mph.

So far the only bluetooth that really works is the Jawbone Prime earpiece. I have it and believe me it does work even at 65mph.

I have a Pioneer HU with the optional Bluetooth adapter.
It works GREAT with the top on at 65mph, (hard top)
windows up, and ac blasting.
But with the top off, forget it.

Is the earpiece loud enough that you can hear it easily at that kind of speed? You're not the first who has recommended that particular Bluetooth earpiece for noisy Jeep use.

Yes, in fact my wife asked my why I was yelling when she could hear me fine and I could hear her fine, in fact she was loud but I was too busy keeping it on the road and did not want to try to lower the volume.

Thanks, I'll have to get one of them now that you confirm they are loud enough. Between my Jeep's road and interior noise and my tinnitus, any Bluetooth I spend money on has to be able to be turned up pretty loud.

my dad uses the jawbone headset with his cell phone for business. He doesn't drive a jeep but it's a very nice headset. not cheap though. His is an older model about a year or so old. He tried the newer one but it would sound choppy to the people on the other end of the call. Might have been a setting or something but he just decided to return it and keep his older one.

I use a Garman model 885 GPS for hands free blue tooth. I plug the GPS into the Ipod jack on my JK radio and push the Aux botton on the radio and the phone comes through the radio speakers.
