The first time I coiled it and then others chimed in just like you and I uncoiled it and laid it back on itself in about 1' increments. It did not help the SWR rating after I fixed it.

I'm out of ideas at this point. just an educated guess on my part, but I would try a different coax.
It can only be one of two things. Coax or Antenna.
Like I said before. I have the same setup and was also getting high SWR reading with the 2ft. 2.5 up to 3. Changed to a 3ft and now they are about 1.5 all around.

I am going to find another cable today and try that. The one I have says it has 90% shielding and some higher quality ones say 100%, but I do not know if that makes a difference.

I've had 2' Firestick antennas on both of my TJs & they tuned up without problem, my present 2' Firestick has a 1.1:1 swr. I've also installed 3-4 Firestick FS-2 2' antennas on friend's Jeeps and obtained good SWRs without problem.

I have picked up a new coax cable and will try tuning it again tonight. Cross your fingers for me.

I did hook up a different CB and I ran a different coax cable to see if the current one had a problem. The SWR came back the same on channel 1 & channel 40, just above 3.0. I ordered a longer antenna so hopefully that will take care of the problem. I will let you know when it comes in. Thank you everyone for the help.

Does your 2' antenna clear the top? If so, by how much?

It does not. It is about 6" below the hard top.

It is a standard Firestik II that should be here on Saturday.

Actually the antenna was supposed to be here on Saturday or at least that is what USPS said. It still is not here. We have had quite the winter storm lately so I am figuring it will come tomorrow. I will update everything when I know.

Okay so I received my 3' firestik antenna and tuned it. I get a SWR of 2.5 on channel 1 & channel 40 with a SWR of 1.4 on channel 20. I am going to stick with this setup and call it good because I cannot fit a 4' firestik in my garage.

hell thats good! 1&40 are just opposite ends of the spectrum so if you less then that on the channel you run then be happy. you do want some resistance on the channels anyway and below 3.0 is safe so your good think only a taller ant will help you to get lower but if you can't fit it then its good.

3' is the tallest that will fit in the garage so that will have to do.

I have the same issue with my antenna being to tall. So I took it off and only put it on when I head out on the trail.

It is not ideal, but it is under 3.0 so I will call it good at that as it just needs to be under to not cause damage.

I received a 4' stik today. I also have a 2' and a 3' stik.
The 2' would never tune.
The 3 and 4' tuned about the same.
At least you found a solution that works.

That issue you had Brian is just driving me nuts since I've installed multiple 2' FS-2 Firestick antennas without any problem getting them tuned to a good low SWR. Mine, as mentioned above, is right at 1.1:1 on channel 20.

I sure wish I could get my hands on your 2' Firestick to try it against my 2' Firestick to see if how it tunes in comparison. For testing purposes, you wouldn't want to send it to me would you? If it proves good good I'll return it so you can fiddle with it in the future and you get bored. If it's bad, I'll trash it. Either way, I'd report the results back here. PM me if you're interested.

Normally I would send it to you Jerry, but I just had my wife send it back to Right Channel Radios for a refund yesterday. At least it is under 3.0 now so it will not cause damage and it can still fit in the garage on 35's.
