First, I would avoid any of the old-school 102" steel whips. Yes they perform well but in reality, so do the shorter antennas most Jeepers use now. Not to mention most 4x4 clubs & organized 4x4 events long-ago banned 102" whips for safety reasons, they were always swaying around & nailing people/injuring them on the trail. Most antenna heights are limited to 48 to 52" or so by clubs/events.
I'd go for a less whippy fiberglass antenna which doesn't sway around & bang into the top or rollcage on rough trails. Firestick makes a good antenna & if you're careful to get an FS series, they include a brass adjustable tip that makes tuning them very easy. An FS-2 is a 2' tall antenna, FS-3 is a 3' antenna, and so forth.
Personally, I use an FS-2 which lets me get my Jeep into my garage. Surprisingly, that 2' antenna works very well on the trail & gets out several miles. It works so well that I don't miss the previous 3' or 4' antennas my previous TJ had.
