CB Decision - audio?

Mods - if this isn't the right place, please move it. I'm always in and around this forum, but my question isn't specific to TJ's.

Got a CB from my Dad - Cobra Nightwatch Limited Edition. Very nice CB, but there's no really good place to mount the monster other than on the dash, and I'm just "meh" about that.

I'm looking really hard at the Cobra 75 all in one handheld. It would make for a MUCH cleaner install. It appears that an external speaker is suggested and the remote mounted box has a speaker out jack. My question is - my Sony aftermarket head unit has an aux in jack - would it work to run the aux cable from the remote CB mount to the radio and use my aftermarket sound system for the CB speaker?

Anyone else running this particular CB? Thoughts?

While I don't have the same cb, I used the auxiliary input of my stereo... it worked, but not well. The stereo amplifies a wide range of sounds, which can cause feedback pretty readily - you can't really turn it up very much. I purchased an external speaker from amazon for 12 bucks. That was a much better way to do it.

I have a Uniden PC78 (peaked & tuned) full size as you got. I used this to mourn mine (and opens up more options for other goodies to be mounted)

I have the cobra 75 and its plenty loud for me. Even with the top off on the highway I can hear and understand others, although I do have a bikini top.

If I needed a speaker I would get one of those little square ones for CB's and mount it to the very left of the dash

I just installed my Cobra 75. It will work with the aux out into your stereo. One thing though, it's only mono-out. So it will only be on your left or right channel. That is what I was originally planning to do and when I benched wired it it worked pretty good. It's either/or though... you can either have it come out of the stereo OR the hand-held. I am wondering if this will be an issue for me when I want to listen to the stereo and monitor the CB, or if I have Nav going, on a call, etc... I may end up with an external speaker after all. We'll see. For now I have it mounted in such a way I can reach under the glovebox and pull the 1/8" plug that goes into the aux of the stereo to have it come out of the handheld.

Do yourself a favor and go to Right Channel Radios and order this package.

Cobra 75 Jeep & Off-Road CB Kit | Right Channel Radios

I chose the TeraFlex spare tire antenna mount with the 3' Firestik. It comes with a SWR meter, cable, and external speaker. Everything you need to get on the air.
