Arrow CB installed center console JK

Testing the waters....
Just finished installing my Uniden 520 pro in my center console with a cigarette lighter power source. It works but Iím getting a good bit of motor noise through the speakers. I think need a better ground. I plan on running power and ground straight from the battery soon. Does anyone have any suggestions or advice to solve my problem? The overall install was pretty simple and there is plenty of room left in the center console. All wires ran under carpet and up through the bottom of the console. FYI there is a nice and easy rubber plug under the driverís side rear seat that you can route your antenna wire through. I ran mine from the back bumper through the frame and out an access hole up to the grommet.

You'll always get noise from a cigarette lighter type outlet. Going direct to the battery will help a great deal with ignition noise, but it will likely not eliminate it. You need to determine if the noise is coming in through the power line, or the antenna. Disconnect the antenna and see if the noise is still present. Does the noise change pitch with engine speed?

Keep your antenna cable as short as possible.
Keep your power and speaker leads as short as possible.
Install ferrite chokes (Snap-Together Toroid Choke Core-2-Pack - RadioShack.com) in both power and speaker lines as close to the radio and speaker as you can.
If it's REALLY bad, you can start installing flat, braided grounding straps between every body panel to bond everything together electrically.
I also found that a lot of my TJ's radiated ignition noise was actually coming from the exhaust system, which was acting like an antenna. Running a couple of flexible ground straps between the pipe and the frame helped tremendously.

Did you remove the console or console liner to install the CD? I'm wanting to attach a bracket to the inside drivers side of the console, but don't want any screws to show outside the console. I can't figure out how to get the liner out.
