CB overload

Any idea how to prevent over driving a radio?
When Amy and I are fairly close, say within 50 yards Amy can't make out what I'm saying.
I have this problem in the big truck at times but then I usually stay quite aways away from other trucks so it's never really bothered me, in the Jeeps we tend to stay pretty close especially on trails.

I take it neither of your radios have a mic or RF gain controls?
Turning down the Mic gain would cut down on the amount of modulation you put out of your unit. making it sound clearer to somebody parked close to you. Turning down the RF gain would cut down on how loud inconming signal are.

Nope, we've got the cheapest we could get so if we sink em or somebody decides they want em more than us it's not that great a loss.

Skeeter,

You will have to Attenuate your signals somehow. Try talking further away from the Mic. An inch or two on your end may make a big difference on her end. (No comments, Amy)

Have your CB's been "Tuned & Peaked"? If so, put them back stock. A lot of the Mods just overdrive the radio. If not, maybe try shorter & less efficient antennas.

You & Amy are both licensed Hams, use 2M radios on direct and low power. You could also get some of the cheap FRS or GMRS radios.

We're saving up for one of these,
http://www.universal-radio.com/CATAL...xvrs/2800.html
till then we have only the Handy talky amerijeep sent.
Once we have 2 2 meter radios we'll use em.

We have frs radios but audio quality sucks when driving.

I have an old rubber ducky type cb antenna I used to use for my jump radio, I'll see if I can get it to match up on mine for when we run together.

Thanks.
