Citizens band radio is a band of frequncies allotted to the free to te publis to operate on without a license. Part 95, I believe. Anyway, There are 40 channels to CB radio. 4 watts is the legal limit power output. It was huge back in the 1970s. About 10 years ago, it had a big comeback, but I think the heyday is probably gone. Alot of off roaders use it to communicate to each other, as well as truckers, some families, hunters, etc. Groups of people who want to keep in touch with each other.
I love CB radio, when it is used responsibly and legally. You can meet some great people on there and the nastiest mouthed jerks too.
Every Jeep should have one, imo. It's hard to find a place to put one in a jeep though. Look for my write-up on CB radio coming to wrangler forum soon. I haven't had time to finish it up

Hey man the CB radio is awsome. It is one of the best things to have when on a trail ride, just imagine if you are out on a trail ride and you have never been on the trail before and before you know it you lose site of the lead vehicle and you dont have a clue what way he turned so you pull out the cell phone only to realize you don't have any signal now here is the best part your CB doesnt need any signal to work well sorta can be to far away from the other guy. but any way you use the radio to find out where the lead vehical is at just think if you didnt have that CB you would LOST!!!
You can go to any truck stop and buy all kinds of cool toy's to put in the CB like a rodger beep or echo box installed there is also cool things like linears which is like an amp for the CB but don' get caught with one. there is also upper and lower sidebans you can put into the CB.
well hey I can go on forever about CB's but if you don't have one you should get one and think of a cool name to be called on it they call it a HANDLE mine is THE CRAZY KID

If you have to ask what it is or what it does, you don't need it, and you will need help to install it!

I just want to say this for the record. Donald, I'm sure you are a great guy, but a good bit of the stuff you encourage with the CB is against federal law. Stuff like that is what ruins it for other Cbers. Particularly, the extra channels. The frequencies you refer to are allocated for government use. Also, it isn't much fun being on the CB when you are running legal power, but can't talk to any0one because someone has their 4 pill cranked so that they lock up the channel and the five channels above and below. It's reckless and irresponsible.
Don't take it personally, Donald. It is my responsibility as a licensed radio operator to encourage good radio practice.
Uncle Charlie IS out there!

The C/B on the trail is a great tool. It keeps you touch with everyone and what is going on. Many times I have spotted the guy in front of me by talking over the C/B. BTW we run them in the tow vehicles also as on a long club trip it is cheaper then a cell phone and work every where as long as you are close.

So given the space constraints of a Wrangler I wonder why trail ride groups haven't adopted the Family Radio Service (FRS) radios?
A couple of watts of power, small handheld units, they can clip easily to a pocket or strap, and don't cost an arm and a leg.

yeah, but if you can't see it, you can't talk to it. half a watt FRS is practically worthless.
Go Ham.
