cb swr reading help

i had a swr hooked up last weekend and had a reading of 3.4ish. i changed the ground and it went down to around 3. i have the ground ran into a screw into the tub. i didn't think i would get a reading that high. i have a 4ft fiberglass fire stick without the tuning screw. so i need help on lowering the readings, should i trim the antenna, how much if so. thanks

do you by chance know how much to remove or a ratio of antenna removed to readings dropping? i read they make theyre antennas extra long so i think that might be the issue, the coax is fine and the ground is solid

As little as 1/8" at a time IF YOUR ANTENNA IS TOO LONG. Have you determined it's too long? Trimming won't help if it's too short.

If SWR on channel 1 is greater than that on channel 40, your antenna is considered to be "SHORT" and increasing the physical and/or electrical length of the antenna is required to correct this situation.

If SWR on channel 40 is greater than that on channel 1, your antenna is considered to be "LONG" and dereasing the physical and/or electrical length of the antenna is required to correct this situation.

^ Use this rule. If your antenna needs to be cut, do it just a little at a time and recheck. You can also spot check SWR on channels in the middle of the band. If you are getting a better SWR on a middle channel than you are on either 1 or 40, stop cutting. Your antenna is then trimmed properly.

follow all the write-ups and rules on the firestick website. The "close your doors and be inside of it with no one around it" is key also. If your to short to begin with, add a quick disconnect or spring.
