Center console sub insert?

Does anyone know if there is a good place to buy a used sub insert for the center console of a 2004 wrangler? I've checked ebay with no luck. I dont care if it is working, I just want to use it as an enclosure for an aftermarket sub, want to keep my system stealthy. I tried posting in the classifieds here but i dont have enough posts yet.
thanks

Best bet would probably be a salvage yard (and you may be able to score one cheap that way)... but I was under the impression the console with the sub are different from those without the sub installed. Might wanna look into that before you buy the enclosure.

I think hes talking about the enclosure with the stock crappy amp in it. Like the one that I just got working. Best bet I would agree is junkyard. They honestly probably don't even know that the enclosure is in there! Just go pull it yourself and then poke a hole in it (if its not already blown) and then buy it broke! I have an 05 and like I said I have it as an option as well. Not sure what years they offered it in though. Ill keep an eye out for ya bro.

thanks for the replies. My center console has the speaker cutout in it, just no sub insert. I will try a few junk yards in my area and hopefully I will get lucky.

Try DaveysJeeps.com ...send in a part request. Might need to explain exactly what it is you're looking for. They got back to me in under 24 hours and they do ship...and their prices are very reasonable.

OEM door handles from the dealer are $100/ea...he quoted me $20 each for used ones in good condition.

DaveysJeeps.com is awesome! I was checking it out and they have the insert at a price I'm willing to pay. I have another question that hopefully you guys can help with. Right now, my center console has the cutout for the sub, so can i just slide it in, or do I need anything else? Does the top of the sub become the bottom of the storage area in the console or is there another part that goes in between the console and sub.

no the storage is seperate from the sub, mine is out right now waiting on spring for the new speaker installl and i have to hook it up to the radio. i still use the storage compartment without the sub. (you can get a decent sub from amazon - i got a 320 watt mid-bass sub for 22.00 shipped) make sure you get 6.5 sub 6 will be too small

CJ, I think you need the subwoofer console tray. This is the tray which fits into the top console opening and accomodates the fact that there is a subwoofer below it. See here: Jeeps Are Us: JEEP WRANGLER SUBWOOFER CONSOLE TRAY
(if link doesn't work, go to Jeep Wrangler accessory and original Jeep parts and accessories - only from Jeepsareus.com and search on 'subwoofer console tray'. it's less than $50) .

I have the same problem - I purchased an '02 TJ Sport without the Subwoofer. Never thought it would be this difficult to find all the right parts to install the sub. I have upgraded all the other speakers and the stereo, but it still needs some OOOMPH!!. I ordered a Kicker CVT65 6.5" lo-pro sub to fit into the console, along with a Kicker low-profile amp to push it. But I am having trouble finding the console subwoofer enclosure. I see one here and there, but most people want $200+ because they include the old amp/sub. Which I don't need or want. Davey's doesn't have one I tried him yesterday. And the OEM sites either have the whole shebang for over $300, or just the outside rear console shell. I do not want to install a sub under the driver seat, or under (or IN) the back seat (as I take out the back seat most of the time) nor in the 'trunk' area as it just takes up too much precious space.

Guess I am just venting here since I just gotta keep on looking.

CJ - as far as I know, you need the Subwoofer enclosure, in which you install the subwoofer, and then it installs under the rear console, and you'll need the console tray, as I mentioned above, to make the top part all functional and pretty, and an amp. Anyone know where they mount the stock amp ? Is it in the sub enclosure or someplace else, like under the Driver seat ?

if I find out more info, I'll post it.
Thanks, btw, guys - this is a good forum. I wouldn't have found out what I know about this today if not for these forums. Keep on Jeepin, Baby!

i got the enclosure about two weeks ago. Had to do a little dremel work on it to get my sub to fit, but other than that it has been working pretty good. I still need to do some tweaking with the sub and enclosure to get it to sound better.

The stock amp is mounted inside the enclosure but is easy to remove.

I got the enclosure from daveysjeeps.com for $75. Must have been the only one he had. I highly recommend using that site. They were very prompt with emails and once I called and placed my order, I had the enclosure 3 days later.

Honestly. If I were looking for a sub I would strongly look at some of the Off the shelf powered subs (There was one made by Infinity that would likely fit under the OEM sub console). and I can 100% guarantee it would sound better.

I had the OEM sub, its a POS. I changed the sub itself out and it improved, but it really needs more power. at this point I'm thinking a powered sub stuck in that same location would be a wise choice.

Curious what you are thinking and how you would mount it in the console? Please elaborate. I just picked up new speakers and h/u and all the junk needed for install. I have the console for a sub, but none was ever installed. I'd really like to find one to put in the console that sounds good, and is pretty easy to install.

Thanks MCC...

I am not too interested in going to salvage yards to find an insert. My 04 does has the grate it just has the full tub and therefore no bass. I am curious as to what exactly I need to make the switch over.

1. Do I need to buy relay like this:
eBay - New & used electronics, cars, apparel, collectibles, sporting goods & more at low prices
Or can I just get any sort of relay and be fine?

2. Then I know this is what I would need this for the top:
JEEP WRANGLER SUBWOOFER CONSOLE TRAY

3. I already bought a pyramid amp for it

4. Is there anything I will need besides some wire?

I contacted a couple of jeep places online and Davey's Jeeps said this:
sub insert without sub $125
goes into existing console
also requires cd tray $25

If that's all I need I think I will go ahead and pull the trigger. I want some better sound so I can drown out the wind in my hellish state. 65+ gusts on a daily keeps our state population below 600,000
