Center console sub replacement.

Looking to upgrade my center console sub in my 02 TJ Sport. At this point I'm leaving everything stock. Head unit and sub amp. Most of the posts I have read recommend a kicker that is no longer made. I see three 6 3/4 in Kicker units for sale on Crutchfield. There is a dual coil 2 ohm, dual coil 1 ohm, and a single coil 1 ohm. Which would work best with the stock sub amp.

The forum consensus based on past measurement says that the ohm value is about 1.3 ohms. So, the dual core 2ohm, wired to 1ohm would work well. The 1ohm should also work. In fact, the dual core 1ohm can be wired to 2ohm. So, they should all work. Although, you will probably get the best sound from a 1ohm subwoofer. It just depends on whether they are probably wired for the ~1ohm stock amp.

I installed the kicker 40cwrt672 yesterday in my 06 with factory sub/amp. It comes with a wiring diagram for 1 or 2 ohm setup. I'd say that it hits about as hard as a small sub with an 80w amp in a plastic box is going to hit. I'm satisfied.

gnater76,
Where did you purchase your kicker from? I see Amazon has one for $120, that sound about right? I don't even want to spend that much for one, I'm not really an audiophile but my subwoofer bit the dust a couple years back, I pulled it out, at the time couldn't find a replacement so I put the center console back together and forgot all about it. Getting tired of listening to it without bass so I figure it's time to do something about it.

That's the one. Sold by hooked on electronics via amazon. I was going to go cheap by read many posts about limited life on the cheaper options. If I had my backseat in much and did not have the factory wiring/amp I would have gone with the sub in the back seat mod.

Funny you should mention not having your back seat in much, I haven't had my back seat in for at least 5 years.

Thanks for getting back on that subwoofer, I think that is how I'll go.
