Cig lighter removal

I have the whole piece out of the Jeep right now and I'm about to paint it. I got the rocker switch out with very little effort but the cig lighters have been holding tight for over an hour. I searched this here on the forum and this question has been posed several times before but it seems no one knows how to get the cig lighters out. One guy said he beat his out with a hammer but I'm not ready to go that route yet. So has anyone figured it out how to get these dern thigs out?

I just removed my whole cigarette lighter assembly. Since you have the assembly out, all I had to do was use a small thin blade flat head screwdriver to push one of the small black retaining clips in. I pushed in on the tab while using my other hand to push the socket from the rear to the front. After one side went thru a little, I did the same thing to the other side. When it released, the lighter socket came straight out the front. I hope this is helpful!
