Cobra 75 install in center console

I wanted it out of the way and mounting under the glove box didn't look all that sturdy plus I only had 12' of antenna cable, so here is what I came up with. I mounted the remote unit to the inner side of the center console, you can see it on the right side about half way up in the first pic.

I used a couple tiny button head bolts, you can not see them when the console is in place, as you can see I missed on the first hole. Then I ran the short mic cable up through the console support and then through the black center piece, had to drill through both. I did not use the plate to hold the plug grommet, I just drilled a 3/4" hole (smaller than the plate opening) and put the grommet right in the console.

Now all I have to do is find a spot to hang the hand set, for now it's fine laying under the E-brake.

I got the following SWR readings, ch 1 = 1.8, ch 19 = 1.9 ch40 2.3, should I bother fiddling with it to lower the SWR on channel 40?

For the handset, with a JK I'd probably get this - Cool Tech LLC. JK VersaMount

And I'd THINK you can probably get the SWR under 2 across the band. I tuned mine from channel 20 to try and get the best across the range.

Just curious as to how that hole you drilled for the connection is holding up? Is it tight enough to hold that cable end in place?

That is exactly what I did a couple years ago on my JK...including the handset mount! Love it. My hole is holding up perfect btw. My only problem is that I do forage water higher than the tunnel! No issues yet, but I'm counting the days!

Yes mine is also doing well. The position of the connector makes it a little difficult to disconnect but other then that i am very happy with it. Most of the time it is not connected, i am currently working on a place to clip the mic when it is connected and will hopefully have that done in a few weeks.

I'm looking into this. I've got my cable coming outfield the e-brake slot but I don't think I like it there. I'm gonna move it to the front of the shifter console and probably use this thing so I don't have to put holes for a mic holder.
