Cobra C75 WX ST - does anyone have this CB?

I am looking for a CB for my 06 Rubicon Unlimited and was looking at the Cobra C75 WX ST. I did notice that one of the kits I found included a seperate speaker for this model and I was wondering if you have this model have you also installed the speaker? Do you have pictures of your install? What is your thoughts on this paticular CB?

You help is apperciated. I am a total newbie to CB radios. I know I want something small as I do not see me using it very often and have a lot of gadgets, IPOD, GPS, etc. So space is of course limited even more then usual.

Thanks....

(Sorry if you are reading this twice but I moved it here from the communications section because I was not getting any feedback and thought there might be more help here.)

I run the Cobra in my YJ. Mounted the connection box under the passenger seat. Pull the mike/radio assy when I am leaving it anywhere and drop it my lockbox. So short of the antenna you would never see it. I have only used it to check weather while camping or when traveling with another rig. Speaker in the handset has been fine. That's the big difference with this radio is that everything is in the handset.

This was the first CB I had in my Jeep. I bought it because of the space issue. The main problem with this CB is that you can't pump it up like you can other models. Which really limits how far you can send and receive signals. I am now running a model 29. I designed and built an overhead mount so it's out of the way. Works so much better.

I should also mention that I plan to upgrade to the model 29 too. Its not that the 75 is bad, its just that the 29 is better. If you can find space for it that is and if your not worried about theft since it is quite noticable

The 75 has worked well for me. The speaker is a bit weak for when you have the top down so I added an external speaker from a truck stop for like 10 bucks and just hang it from the roll bar with velcro when I've got the top down. The nice thing is that you can easily remove the CB when not in use and all you've got is that tiny little reciever.

The noisier your Jeep and the more time it spends without a top, the more you'll either want to choose something different from the Cobra 75WXST or that you'll want to also install an external speaker. Its speaker is inside the microphone and as such, it's very tiny and not able to put out a lot of volume.

Personally, I'm much more of a fan of radios that have a conventional speaker and controls on the radio itself. It's hard to drive and manipulate the various controls on the 75WXST's microphone, not to mention if it goes bad, you're not going to find a replacement mic at the local truckstop like you will for a conventional Cobra or Uniden radio. I'm just saying that if having the speaker etc. all in the microphone was such a great idea, it wouldn't only Cobra doing it.

There are plenty of places to mount a conventional CB into a TJ, even on the center rollbar hoop where mine was first installed like in the below pic. Others install the mount that places the CB overhead by attaching to the windshield frame via the footman loop screws. There's always in or on the console too. If you buy the Cobra 75WXST, you'll probably end up going with an external speaker at some point and it'll likely end up being installed where a conventional CB could have been installed.

Another couple good radios to look at include the Uniden Pro520XL (in the below pic) for under $50, or the Uniden Pro510XL for under $40. If you want one with a weather band, the Uniden Pro538 is under $60.

I just installed a Cobra 18 WXSTII, it is still fairly compact + it has a foward facing speaker. I mounted on the back side of the console, above rear cupholders. Sorry no pictures yet!
