Confused with difference in usb ports

Hello, I just got a 2013 wrangler with unconnect, Bluetooth , nav and all that comes with that package. I have a USB In the radio and a USB in the center arm console. When I plug my iPod into the center console, I get artist name info, and all sorts of details. When I plug it into the radio
, I get nothing but a charge to my device. What is the purpose the radio USB serves and is it supposed to do the same at the center console USB?

Pat

I think like some aftermarket head unit, the USB port in the center console has a special controller for iPod/iPhone.
The USB port on the radio will read MP3 files stored in a memory stick, USB drive or phone connected as USB storage device.

From what I've heard, Jeeps have had some compatibility issues with iDevices. I'm not sure if either party has fixed that problem yet, but you might want to take a look around.

"The radio usb will only work with portable drives and flash drives. It is for loading music or custom POI's to the nav.

The USB in the armrest or in the console store are the only ones that take the ipod connections.

Why not use the bluetooth streaming from your iphone? I only use the connection if I want to charge the device."

Found that for you if it helps.

Thanks for the help ! I always get great answers on here. I think streaming music through Bluetooth downgrades the audio quality opposed to it being plugged in. I could be wrong though. Either way works great. Thanks for your help.

Pat.
