Dash Cam

I am looking to buy my boyfriend a dash cam/video for when we are out 4wheeling. Like a GoPro, but other brands to research. I keep finding hunting cameras which don't do me any good. If ya'll could help me find the best thing for a gift please do. Thank you in advance!!!

GoPro all the way. If you want to impress him get him the GoPro. The roll bar bracket and MTB helmet straps are cheap, plus its waterproof. I got the Wasabi battery Pack and charger for like $20 dollars. Then get the 32GB or 64GB SD card, and you are set.

I just got the White Edition to try it out. It's pretty awesome though for such a tiny motion picture camera.

Another vote for gopro, but if he's into video editing or good video, get the hero3 black.

I vote for the GoPro as well. I made a dash mount for my JVC HD recorder (before I had a GoPro) and the JVC is great, but not for taking good video while in a Jeep. I bought the GoPro Hero3 Silver because at the time of purchase the Black version had just been released and it had bugs.. Those have since been addressed and fixed, but I love my Silver 3 and glad I saved $100 on it

The wasabi packs mentioned above are a necessity as the GoPro has terrible battery life and the packs are cheap.

Youre still gonna need more micro sd cards to keep up with battery life. Unless you bring your laptop and dump on the trail i suppose lol

ive used my hero 2, that I bough for my motorcycle, while wheeling a couple times and, apart from some very long boring parts in the 3 hour video, it turned out awesome!! my vote is gopro as well. but some cheep video editing software will be needed for whatever you choose.

ive used my hero2 on my motorcycle, in the jeep on trails, and even on a seadoo when towing my brother on a tube. and with just basic editing they come out amazing. tho my computer is starting to get to slow to edit anymore. (BTW every editing software has a 30 day trial! you can edit for months without buying a thing! lol)

there are a tone of POV cameras out there now, and half of them look identical to the gopro. look in the 4-wheeler and dirt bike mags and you will see them advertised. sometimes they even have an article comparing the top brands too

This is false. The hero 3 creates a wifi network that you join before connecting with it to use the app to view photos and videos, use phone as a remote, etc... you do not have a pre-existing network around. The range on it's wifi is 300-600ft.

Also about the battery life, I think you could burn 3 batteries before filling up your SD. If you plan on using the car charger, then you might want more sd. 64 is a ton for one outing.
