Dash speaker enclosure?

I am replacing the stock speakers in the dash of 06. I have heard that without some kind of enclosure or padding for the speaker, you will lose a lot of the bass and sound quality. Is this true? And if so, what are my options for these enclosures or sound padding?

Thanks

There are many write ups on speaker replacement in the TJ forums. I am using a pair of Infinity components with a multi channel amplifier to create a front sound-stage as well as provide rear fill through the sound bar. I would recommend a good set of 5 1/2" speakers, whether it be a coaxial or component. If you are using the stock Head Unit (HU), then a speaker with a higher sensitivity rating is suggested as well as a coaxial type, rather than component type which would usually require an aftermarket amplifier.
Since the Stock and many aftermarket HU's are rated at lower watts per channel. It is good to have the speakers and HU wattage ratings close to equal rather than some absurdly rated (200 watt speakers) and a factory HU which may only put out 15 watts per channel. This means you should be looking for a speaker with a lower power rating is desired as well. The sensitivity rating is how well the speaker performs at a given wattage, usually 1 watt @ 1 meter. The higher the number, the more efficient the speaker will be with a lower power rated systems. If you are running Higher wattage HU or an aftermarket amplifiers, then a speaker with a higher RMS and Max. wattage is recommended.
There are many audio enthusiasts as well as experts here in the forum. I am sure you will get lots of advice and opinions. Welcome to the forum and good luck with your system.
