Definite Sound Upgrade- Pioneer AVH-X4500BT

Just recently installed the Pioneer AVH-X4500Bt and it is well worth it. Looks fanatastic, The adjustable button colors match our dash just about perfectly. The unit does so much more than stock. Back up camera, crossovers, eq, Pandora, DVD, and much more.

The sounds is cleaned up and more precise. Even though I am running it with stock speakers and amp it sounds a little louder and much cleaner-not sure why...

The only downside is i did pay an extra $100 for the AV202 cable and the app radio seems not to work. Also, the bluetooth handsfree doesn't seem to work properly. Person can hear me, but I can NOT hear them. I'm guessing the new Iphone firmware (7.0.4) isn't being recognized by the HU. And, I did upgrade the firmware in the HU. I'll call Pioneer this week; if anybody has insight on this please share as well.

Either way, it is well worth the price paid- $300 at Crutchfield on the Black Friday sale.

Prewired remote wire and 3 pairs on Monster Cable RCA's to add amps soon..

Update, AppRadio does work now. Finally was able to change input to VGA Adapter - Iphone 5.

Now have online video, Waze Naviation, and more.

Still don't have complete bluetooth phone capability.

With Bluetooth there are a lot of different protocols. I have heard of people having trouble with Iphones and Bluetooth. One thing is to make sure you have properly paired your phone with the radio. Did you read this, and determine the capability of your Iphone?

http://www.crutchfield.com/learn/abc...n-the-car.html

As far as you hearing people, that should come through your speakers. One thing I found is that if I play music through my bluetooth sometimes, I can't hear it. The bluetooth sometimes doesn't fully sync. I find that if I can hear my music from my phone, through bluetooth after pairing, then it is working properly. Sometimes, I have to press play, and press rewind, on my HU, from Bluetooth mode, until it sync's properly, and the music starts playing, through my HU from my phone. Then, I can properly hear signals coming in through Bluetooth. Turning up the volume completely on the phone helps too. This way you are sending out a full signal from your phone. You can control the volume on the HU. Turning off the vehicle and/or taking the phone out, can also mess up that sync, and you may have to re-sync it all over again.

Thanks Chas. I'll try your suggestions.

If not anything you mentioned i believe it's this. Has to do with our amp'd system only having to inputs for 4 channels. The phone and nav voice is put through to the rear. As stated in the first post in this thread...
Help me understand - PAC harness

Hope I don't have to dig into the dash again, lol.

Yeah, its kind of hard to pull the proverbial rabbit out of the hat for you when there is no year Jeep specified, so I really don't know what you are working with.(I.E. Steering wheel controls, etc.) Sorry, I couldn't be of more help.

I have the 8500 and have had minimal problems with bluetooth. It works far better than the Bluetooth that came with the Jeep.

Cycle the power in your HU and do a hard reset on your iPhone (hold top button and home button) until it resets. See if that works?

Good luck.

Sorry guys. It's a 2014 JKU with the Alpine System. Everything is working great... except BT.

I think what you are talking about is Dual Zone. But, with Bluetooth, I'm not sure how well it would work. Because, you can play music through the Bluetooth, and you would want it to come out of all speakers. This is why I think its important to determine if you can hear music through your Bluetooth from your phone. Once you can hear the music through the Bluetooth, you should be able to hear the phone voice, because they ride on the same signal.

Your Pioneer should have a setting to change Bluetooth audio from just the front or rear to all speakers. It will likely be buried in a menu, probably the BT menu. The PAC harness only has a two channel input, so if the PAC was fed the signal from your rear channels on the Pioneer, than you will have no audio on BT if the Pioneer's BT audio is set to only play through the front speakers. Making the change in the Pioneer's menu should remedy that situation, assuming the PAC harness is the problem.

Got it figured out and will elaborate soon so maybe it can help someone in the future.

One last question. Related to the back up camera. Do I hook the pac green wire up to the pioneer violet/white wire? And if so then just hook the camera itself to the gray/white reverse wire in the rear and the ground to ground/black wire???

Thanks for any input.

The fix: Pretty easy really.. And somewhat stupid on my part...

First I deleted the AppRadio app and then re-loaded it. Secondly, I was finally able to get it to "VGA Adapter" by going into settings with the unit off. Now the AppRadio is an incredible set up. I have onboard active gps navigaion as if it is part of the radio; Waze being my favorite. Also, on long trips on at a stand still we can watch movies from our Iphone5 via NetFlix, Itunes, or storage. Pandora, calendars, and even a onboard browser (although the browser is sketchy).

Also, I re-wired the front Pioneers to the Pac units rear inputs and handsfree calling works fine. Should have read the instructions!

Now to finish with the back up camera...

What adapters/cables did you get for the iPhone? I kept reading the Pioneer one had crap you didn't need so I didn't get that. Also, curious what camera you got and where you are placing it. Looking go so far though! Glad u solved your BT prob.

. All you need is an HDMI cable, an iPod charging cable and an Apple lightning digital AV adapter.

I bought the Pioneer AV202 something or other cable. Then I had to add some Apple AV adapter and the Apple USB cord that comes with the phone. Sorry for the really poor description...

All that being said though.. The cable is worth every penny! Through my phone I have navigation on my head unit screen with full touch screen ability (Waze, which I really like anyways), other maps, a touch screen browser, and even full video. Hell, I can rent a Netflix or itune Store movie while camping or whatever and watch it in the middle of nowhwere.

Additionally, just adding the headunit, and not even changing the speakers or amp yet... the system sounds much better. More channel separation, clarity, depth, highs, and even bass. I can't say enough how this is money well spent.

Stevil, Thanks. The camera is a adjustable one I found on ebay. It was under $20 and came with the hole saw as well. Had it hooked up temporatily and it looked good. Still have to re-hook it back up. I installed it at the center cap of my spare tire. Looks great.

. As I said, all you need is an HDMI cable, an iPod charging cable and an Apple lightning digital AV adapter. If you prefer to pay Pioneer $150 for their wire loom, that is your choice. All the other cables are available off the shelf or in my case had them laying around.
