Detachable face deter?

Does having one really deter a thief from taking your radio? How about a head unit with a security code feature? I am not in a high crime area but still checking.

^^^ Yep! Why bother with a useless stereo? But, make sure you take the faceplate, or they'll just steal it, and they cost almost as much as the unit ( I guess cause all the knobs and pretty lights and buttons are on it....)

The Tuffy won't work. I want the 7 inch fold out screen. I found a Clarion don't remember the model off hand. 709 maybe for under $400 with BT.

I had an Alpine head unit stolen out of an old Honda Accord. The faceplate was detached and in the glovebox but this "gentleman" thief (I say gentleman because he didn't smash the window which had been done before in a previous stereo theft) popped the lock and delicately went through the vehicle looking for the face. A sidenote, I leave NOTHING out in the open in my vehicles so as not to draw any attention.

Also, I was talking to the owner of the shop where I bought my latest stereo and he told me that the faceplates cost almost as much as the entire unit to replace. The reason being I guess that manufacturers try to deter theft that way. Anyway, just my two cents...
