Factory CD player with aftermarket amp and speakers????

i have a 2002 Wrangler TJ with all stock audio and I want to upgrade the sound quality but leave the factory cd player in the dash so as not to make it more attractive to thieves.

SO, i know that upgrading the speakers alone will not get me very far with the low power head unit.

My question is= Can I install an amplifier along with new speakers and drive it all with the factory head unit?

Yes, you can. Most aftermarket amps have a low pass/high pass to where you can wire it up via RCA's or via wire harness. I believe they also make an adapter that converts to RCA's, but you may loose some sound quality with the conversion. I'm sure someone else will chime in that knows way more than I do about it. I've actually considered putting my stock HU back in since my ancient Alpine HU is bout shot!

You'd also be very surprised how much of a difference good speakers can make over stock units...very surprised! By the way, if you have the sub-woofer option you can upgrade it with a Pyramid that does very well from what I gather!

Ok so going with new speaks but keep stock hu you will be good. Like already said you might loose a little sound quality but not much. I have aftermarket Infinities in mine they sound amazing. I have two jn the speaker bar and the 2 5x3 inch ovals for the front. All 4 of the speakers are hooked up to a 300 watt omarion ( I spelt thy way wrong) amp.
I don't have a stock head unit tho. Just so you know

To add to my power I have a 1000 watt kicker sub connected to a 10 inch 1000 watt roxsford fosgate sub. I have the amp about half way up and my bass boost about half way up. I'm prolly the loudest stereo at my school. but with a 10 in sub it's a very crisp bass verses a 12 in will sound more floppy... Yes I said floppy. I know it doesn't prolly make sence but it will if you don't think about it.
