I am looking for a little help to avoid a typical situation I get myself into too often trying to "help" my son. In this case, I am trying to save him $200+ in cost and maybe teach him that he can do it himself.
He just purchased a used 2007 wrangler with the what I believe is a stock radio (it has Sirius radio built in with MP3 port). The previous owner mounted a baha amp to drive a mounted Infinity subwoofer in the rear. My problem is I am an engineer and tinker, but haven't messed with car electronics in a long time. I have all the cables I need, except a LOC (Line Out Converter). I am pretty sure to finish the install the power needs to be run from the battery to the Amp, and I need to tap a speaker line with the LOC and run that into the Amp, and finally run a line from some switched circuit to turn on the AMP when the car is started. Does it matter where the speaker wire is spliced (i.e. there are places where it is probably a lot easier to reach than behind the dash)? If I can avoid having to open up the dash that would be ideal. If anyone has anything to add to help me avoid making a mistake, I would appreciate it. Thanks Lance |

I just asked my buddy and he says you can tap that speaker wire anywhere...doesn't have to be behind the dash. Also for the remote turn on wire...you can run it from a switched circuit (cigarette lighter would work if it's switched on/off with the ignition) or on the stock headunit, tap it into the power antenna wire. If your son's dash comes apart similarly to mine, it's very simple. 3 screws and a few clips you just gotta gently pop out. Also, when you run the power wire off the battery, make sure you run an inline fuse...I usually put them under the hood near the connection to the battery. Don't forget to ground the amp if the previous owner pulled all the wiring off the amp. Just run the ground from the ground terminal on the amp to some bare metal on the body/chassis. You want to keep that wire short...preferably around 1-2 feet tops. I usually drill a hole in the body near the amp, grind the paint off around it and then using a nice big screw, screw it down tightly to the metal. Also make sure you use the right gauge wire for the amp or you may end up with a nice little campfire in the Jeep.
I usually use this place for my amp wiring needs: http://www.knukonceptz.com/ |

above post is correct you dont have to go behind radio to get signal for LOC. but..make sure it's a full range/sub signal you tap into.....if you have the factory infinity system in jeep don't tap into tweeter wires bc they are normaly crossed over for only high frequency.
