Finally finished subwoofer box.

This is the finished product of my space saving sub box. Glad that I didn't lose any storage space in my 2 door.

Thank you.
I need to do wiring behind the deck tonight so I can get back to you tomorrow how it sounds. Only thing I worry about is the sound with the top/doors off since it's pointing sideways. I know it will sound great otherwise as the box is the correct volume for the speaker and it sounded great in a smaller enclosure under my back seat from old truck. Besides, I was more careful with this box to get it sealed airtight.

If I could find a more efficient way of making these I would definitely sell them. As of now, after my first one, the cost of my time to make them would not be worth it to purchase. It took me 2 months as I only did 1 step per weekend, not too devoted to it with other projects going on around the house. Should only take 3 days allowing time for fiberglass and truck liner spray to dry.

Yes with the top off subs are worthless.
I have a 1000 watt roxford sub and a 1000 watt kicker amp. I can't here it if I'm going over like 25

It's done and rewired! It sounds awesome and it's even underpowered. 4x40 Alpine with rear channels bridged to sub. I took a drive up to about 55mph and it still was clear and full. I stopped by my friends and he even said it sounds better than when I had the pair under my quad cab back seat.(only one 8" now) This box is a better fit for the sub than the smaller boxes from the truck.

Sorry to hear that, maybe because the sub is so far back and away from you? I am feeling and hearing this little 8 hit from behind the seat and passenger seat I'm told. I have my doors off and only the freedom tops on front. It's odd because the bass is not loud at all outside, maybe some strange acoustics going on there.

I have to say, I am pleasantly surprised with how it sounds.

I was about to do this on both sides in my 2000 wrangler. I was going to use 2 JL 13TW5's but I ended up selling them and buying something beefier. Can you post a video showing us how they sound once everything is up and running?

my opinion

I am not sure of some of your guys setup. But I have noticed that with a decent sub in a down firing sealed enclosure and ample power the bass can still be noticed with the top off. This is the case in my system. Although it is nowhere near the bass I have with the top on. I started with one 10" M class Memphis sub and with the top on it is more than enough bass, but with the top off, I need just a little more. It is of course my personal preference. I will be upgrading in the future to a dual 10" Memphis setup as soon as I can get back on my feet again and build me an enclosure, or sell my single enclosure and just buy a dual 10" just4effect enclosure, which BTW are awesome products. I am currently out of commission healing from my multi lumbar fusion and don't want to push it. I would like to heal right the first time. Sitting here everyday is killing me to be doing nothing. Whew..Patience....

I am pushing maybe 80-90 watts on the same sub I used to put a monoblock 300 watt amp to. I am not kidding that it really does sound awesome.(balanced with highs and hits a wide frequency) I used to be a bass head filling my trunks with 2-4 subs and gradually moved toward sound quality in the last 18 years. Never owned a vehicle without some bass. Got a bad look driving past an old guy at about 35 mph on my way to work today. Maybe he was just jealous that he can't take his doors off? It's all about the location and having a quality sub in a good sealed box. If you have a 10 or 12" behind the rear seat try facing it sideways behind the front seat and you should see what I mean. When you have the top off and the sub behind the back seat the sound just reflects straight up as it has nothing to reflect the sound towards you. Same principal as when you have subs in a trunk, you face it backwards and get better bass as it reflects off the back and expands towards the front. I really didn't expect it to sound so good, especially knowing that I have less than 1/3 the power I used to push this sub with.

I don't know how 13" subs could be considered saving space?

I doubt a video could demonstrate how the sub sounds. I guess I could take a video of my rear view mirror shaking as not many phone cameras really pick up bass with their microphones.

I guess I should have been more specific in my post lol..at least with my setup..even with top off you can still tell its beating..it's just not a pressurized feeling of bass that you get with the soft top on..

Yes, I have 2 10's in a sealed box. Facing down in the back. It sounds great. I only have a single channel amp @ 325 watts.

Me? It has legs... Well sort of, they are rotted from my old top leaking

I'm going to cut them off and bolt on L brackets that I can bolt down. It's behind the rear seat, fits snug.

Edit: guess not

Where is the sub pointing?

My friend had a 10" in his TJ and put a lid over it so the sound would reflect forward. I think this is what he had, no rear seats in his.
240-01 - Tuffy Security Deck Enclosure for 87-06 Jeep® Wrangler YJ, TJ & Unlimited - Quadratec

Or something like this could help if you have the back seats in. I'm sure this would be easy to make out of wood and a fraction of the cost.

If this is directed to me, I used a large toggle bolt from inside the enclosure to an oval opening in the tub. Used a large washer with 2 polyurethane washers to keep the box airtight. Then I made a small plate/hook for the back edge to catch on the side lip out of stainless sheet that I cut down and painted to match the box.

What is/was the recommended enclosure volume? That's more what I was referring to.

BTW, working on my post count.

Car audio stores can build it for you for a hefty price. If they say they can't then don't ever go back to give them your money. I just googled kicker solobaric box specifications and their site tells you recommended volume and the dimensions of their boxes designed for their subs. However, I never liked the sound of vented / ported boxes so can not recommend what size and shape of port sounds best, or length of port which is used to tune to certain frequencies. Im sure you could find this on the internet.

That does look secured and pretty clean. I built my box to save as much space as possible and would worry about the shallow subs on the seat taking up too much space from my freedom tops. It's not uncommon for me to leave home in 110+ heat and get somewhere that is in the 80's and want to take at least part of the tops off while I am there. I never had the soft top, but wonder if it would fold back behind the seat without getting beat by the subs? I guess as I got older I just don't need all that bass and prefer the most space.
