Finally got the radio installed

Yaesu Ft-7100M mounted to an aluminum open console. The rear is enclosed in plexiglass where you can see some of the wiring which will go to lights and other accessorries.

Cool!!!
How does it attach at the windsheild?
I'm trying to talk Amy into using some of our tax return to get a mobile radio for her Jeep.

There are two holes in the windshield frame for a footman loop, got it bolted on there.

That looks nice, did you create it yourself or find it made to order?

Thanks. Did it myself. Cost was about 35 bucks.

I changed the radio I had in the jeep. Now I have a Yaesu FT-2800M 2 meter radio. This has the weather alert feature and 440 just isn't real popular around here so this will be a better radio for the jeep. I also added a Wedgie speaker to the back of the console.

We got my CB installed today. WooHoo! Once everything is buttoned up, in the daylight, I'll get some pictures to post. Might be after we go fishing though.

Nothing fancy but it works good.

Since it's on the dash, I wanted to be able to hide it when it's not in use and I've got the top off. We installed power dingleberries (the red and black knobs to the right of the cb) so I just unscrew the dingleberries, unplug the cb and put it away.

This is just a pic of the mic. From the angle the picture was taken, it looks like the mic cord is in the way of things but it's not, from the driver's seat.

For now, I've got Skeeter's old magnetic antenna on my back bumper. Need to run down to the 4x4 shop to get an antenna mount tomorrow. Then it'll be done... until I get my ham license...

Looks good. Good ideal on the dingleberries. I'm still trying to figure out how to fab a cover for mine with limited tools, I'm not comfortable having the radio hanging from the cealing when I'm not home and the jeep is. I wish this radio had a quick-release mount but oh well.

I like quick release stuff! My IC208H has a plug for the pwr/grd in the rear so it's relatively easy to remove if it's going to be parked somewhere sleazy. And that's also why I like the Cobra 75. After having my windows slashed while parked in front of my house, in a good neighborhood and under a street light! WTF!?!?! I am kinda wary of dirtbags now...

I like the 75 too, good radio. The prices on them are getting a lot better now.

I added a couple guards on my ham antenna mount. I used a hose clamp n the bottom holes on the mount and I only had a peice of plexiglass to makea cover over the coax. Kind of retro but it will protect from snags. here's the pics.

That must be some big antenna. What's the spring for? Or is that a spring?

Nope, just a 4 foot fiberglass antenna. It is a spring, I don't take it down in the woods. I've never had a problem with it bouncing off tree branches. It all look huge because I had two antennas there. Thanks for looking.

That's a good idea, KG4KPG. Looks like you did a good job of it too.

Oooo, I need a spring on mine, I keep smacking it on the garage.

Does that mean it would have to be retuned if I add one?

I does look pretty cool, looks like either you thought it out well, or you've damaged antennas before and knew what to protect.

Yes, Tiny, it MAY have to be re-tuned. I believe adding a spring would effectively lengthen the antenna electrically and you might have to tune it again. It's a good idea to check the SWR whenever you make a change to the way your antenna is mounted or change the position on the vehicle. It can make a big difference.

I finally lit a fire under my a$$ last night and did a good install for my 2m radio. I pulled the plastic dash section just below the steering wheel and saw that there is a BIG open area up under there! There is even a hole already in the bracket for the steering column so I could bolt the radio's bracket to it and it won't interfere with the tilt. There is tons of space for air circulation as well. I'll be mounting the remote head to the windshield frame using a bracket made from some scrap aluminum I had laying around.

I'll post pics when it's all finished up...
