There are three FOV settings for taking photos on the Hero2; Wide, Med, and Narrow. The Hero1 is Wide only.

Yeah, I bought the LCD bacpac. Don't waste your money. It's murder on the battery and it's easy enough to get everything in the picture without it.
The LCD automatically turns off after 60sec to save battery life, and I've found it very useful to aiming the mount properly. In some cases I've used the LCD to get the camera aimed, then removed it to let the camera do its thing unencumbered by the extra size/drain.

It's also nice to be able to play back your clips (with sound) on the scene rather than waiting till later.

Another benefit is that the camera's settings menus appear as "plain(er) language" on the LCD vs the cryptic iconography on the camera itself.

Overall, I think the LCD Backpac is a matter of preference.

How is the video quality of this thing in darkish indoor settings? My living room is fairly dark at night with the lights on and the video on my phone and still camera isnt all that great. I would like a replacement for kiddie videos

Went and looked at the GoPro cameras this afternoon at best buy. It looks like best buy stores only carry the GoPro hd hero 2 outdoor editions in store in addition to the GoPro original naked one. You have to buy the motorsport edition online if you want that one. I liked them but I didn't get one. I also didn't know that you cannot view the movie your taking on the back of the camera to see what you're filming unless you buy and additional $79 lcd attachment. Ugh...

Yeah, I bought the LCD bacpac. Don't waste your money. It's murder on the battery and it's easy enough to get everything in the picture without it. The HD hero has 127* field of vision in 1080p, which is what I use all the time. THe other resolutions have a 170* field of vision which makes the video fish eyed as well.

It's a specialty item, niche market. Kinda like tacking "Marine" or "Aviation" to the start or end of any product name.

And I think clipping a 32" LCD to the back of a GoPro may limit one's mounting options. But hey, no judgement here. ;)

Yea I understand that but a 1" lcd cost probably less than $2 to mass produce. It may even cost less. What is that like a 1,000,000,000,000,000,000% mark up? :D

I still want one :(

  but no. The LCD would have to be manufactured for $0.0000000000000079 for it to be a 1,000,000,000,000,000,000% markup. :D Just sayin.

I'm sure you're right though about the $2 or less cost in parts but I'm sure they've figured in cost of labor and shipping from China as well as packaging and advertising costs too so they're probably making 30-50 bucks off of each one sold.

I want one too.

I have no doubt that they're damn cheap to make. Prices will come down over time after the company recovers some R&D, the tech becomes cheaper, and more market products drive competition.

As with anything, they determine the Cost, you determine the Value. If Cost <= Value then Purchase = Yes. If Cost > Value and Purchase = Yes then Wife = Angry Eyes.

Sorry, I'm getting a little off topic. So lessee ... if you want to record your outings it's tough to beat a GoPro, regardless of what accessories you tack on. There, I feel better. :)

We'll I got one. Just picked it up from Best Buy. GoPro HD Hero 2 Outdoor Edition. At home checking it out. I'm sure I'm gonna start flooding WF here soon with my Jeep excursion videos and they'll be in 1080p muahaha!!

Anyone on here want to trade a suction cup, lcd backpack, or other accessories for the ones that came in the Outdoor edition? I'd like to have the suction cup mount.

Save yourself some storage space, avoid jellyvision completely, and get smoother motion by using 720p60fps. All around, the results are FAR better than 1080p IMO.

At least take some time to do some A/B comparisons. Bigger is not always better.

^ Good video bud, although I would have sped up some of the frame transitions IMO.

I really would like to get one of these as well, even if it was just for a dash cam for commutes because you never know. :D
Ya this is only like my third video I've edited, so still trying to figure out what works best. They are great little cameras and have unlimited mounting possibilities.

Ok so I've taken videos in every resolution with my new Hero 2 and 760p with 60frames is bar far the smoothest. 1080p looks very good too but the 30 frames vs 60 does affect it. I do like how you can choose wide, med, or narrow in 1080p mode for filming vs only wide in 760p. I'd like to put up a few videos of mine driving around mounted to my dash on the jeep but man a 760p 5mn video takes over 1hr to upload to youtube. :banghead:

Do a Google search for XMedia Recode. (It's a free download.) I have it and you use it to recode your finished video file to make it smaller. It will then upload to YouTube much faster. How do you think that I got all those 30-45 min videos up on YouTube? :punk:

It goes like this:

1) Use whatever software you have (I use Windows Live movie maker) to edit your raw video footage.

2) When you finish and save the video on your PC, run it through XMedia Recode and you'll have another copy of it with a much smaller file size.

3) Upload to YouTube. :)
