K6SVW. Running FT-8800R with Diamond 2m/70cm antenna in the Jeep. I have a FT-60R also. Looking to get a 2m rig for my truck.

For those in the area I mostly monitor the Tahoe 805.

N2NLQ here, Hi!

Haven't been very active, but now that I have a Jeep it seems like a good excuse to rig a dual antenna setup onto the back for CB and my trusty dusty Radio Shack HTX-202 2-meter handheld.

Hi all. NB9T in Indiana. No radio in the Jeep yet (just got her yesterday). Planning to get a 2m in there over the weekend. Looking at mounting options for my FT817 down the road (pun intended), maybe a screwdriver. I've been playing with loop antennas at home, and I'm intrigued by the mobile possibilities, so who knows...

Hope to see some of you on the air.

I run an Alinco 135 with a single band wire whip in the truck, and just picked up a dual band Woxoun HT (Christmas present from my wife) for when we are out of the Jeep. Although the set up is a little complex, the perfomance of this inexpensive HT coupled with a size that fits in my pocket makes it a welcome addition on the trail.

KB3TCZ here, still looking on getting my first radio soon. Thinking about going with 2 meters. Question about antennas though, can you still use the mounting brackets that go behind the tail lights? Or are they CB only?

I am using the Teraflex mount for mine. I had to use a dremel on the mount (took less than 5 mins) to make the opening bigger for the antenna to fit properly. Since you are so close to the Rubicon I would go with a dual band radio (2m/70cm).

Good call, I've been on the fence about getting a dual band so I agree with you about the dual band, better to have more than not enough right? On a side note I'll check out the Teraflex mount. Any radio you suggest?

I have a Yeasu FT-8800R. Only radio I have ever used. I really don'y know alot about other radios. As far as the dual band, I suggested that because if you do travel on the Rubicon you will be able to hit the Tahoe and El Dorado repeaters. Also, there is a repeater at Spider Lake linked to the El Dorado repeater.
