Handheld CB

I really want a CB for trail riding, but I am not a big fan of how they look inside the jeep when they are permanantly mounted. Do they make a "walkie-talkie" style cb that pics up most frequencies that a regular CB would? If so links would be greatly appreciated.

Yep. The Google keyword you are looking for is "handheld.". The good news is they put out 4 watts, the same as a mounted mobile. You don't get the good antenna though.

how far would this "handheld" reach? Surely it would make it 200 yards...that is about as far from each other as we ever are on trails

How about this one? Would it suffice for trail rides only?

As long as you can see the person you are trying to talk to, it will work. Over hills and around corners, not as well. I don't know a lot about particular models but Cobra is a trusted brand.

There is a model that has everything built into the mic part so its pretty compact, you still need an antennae but in the cab all you see is the mic. here is a link to it.

You can get a handheld CB and add a permanently mounted antenna with a simple BNC to SO-239 adapter.
