Is there a part number for the metal bracket that we hacksaw? I cut mine on the top, rather than the bottom, and I'm thinking that's why my unit sticks out at an odd angle past the faceplate.

Also for what it's worth, I replaced my two PAC units (CHY4 and the SWI) with the combination RP11 and now I have a ton of room around the head unit for all the other stuff. I wish I had done that the first time around.

Sirius/XM reception

Any issues so far with Sirius/XM reception, and where did you mount the antenna for the Sirius Tuner module ? I have been told reception in spotty at times, when using aftermarket antennas..?

Thanks, Jim

[QUOTE=pastis;2781137]I also just finished installing a 6990 last night in my '12 JKU. The worst part in my opinion was finding room near/behind/under the head unit for the Sirius tuner, the ginormous iPod cable, and the two PAC wiring harnesses. Hacksawing the bracket was annoying, but straightforward.

Overall I think the Kenwood iPhone integration beats the RBZ/uConnect combo I had in there before by miles, and I'm no longer reliant upon a portable dash-mounted nav unit that I had to remember to lock up every time I left the car.

Oops, my bad, it's the RP4-CH11: PAC RP4-CH11 Chrysler Radio Replacement Interface Lets you install a new stereo in select 2004-up Chrysler vehicles while retaining steering wheel audio controls at Crutchfield.com

Ezymount-- I mounted the Sirius antenna on the frame under the padding above the passenger side seat. I think that's where the factory puts it, as well. I haven't had any noticeable reception issues.

For those with the CH11 SWI, what did you plug it into? The constructions say it plugs into the wired remote input, and I don't see that on my Kenwood 6990HD.

The SWI module has a 3.5mm headphone jack as well as a blue/yellow wire coming out of the same place as the jack. Use this and connect it to the blue/yellow wire from your Kenwood's main harness; you won't need the 3.5mm jack...

A few things.
Lets see if I get this correct

A Doubble DINN unit DOES fit in the Wrangler Sport?

Also: How well do these after market units hold up to "Oops I'm caught in the rain with the top off" ?

Yes, but you have to remove the factory bracket for it to fit and you may also need to buy a dash kit appropriate to the size of your aftermarket unit.

Unless marketed as "marine rated", assume it will be as water resistant as the stereo in your front room.

I removed my 430N and dropped in the Parrot Asteroid Smart unit. So far I love it. Its shallow so I dont have to worry about supporting the back of it, but I did have to modify the plastic frame surrounding it behind the dash. I also had to remove the old metal bracket which is making the dash not fit super tight so I have to look into some mod for that as well.

CoreyZ - did you use the UNIKA module from Parrot for the install?

I was going to, but decided against it. Its too easy to adjust volume and change tracks by using gestures on the screen so I skipped it.

DNX6990HD in a 2013JK???

Have 2013JK... looking to have kenwood DNX6990HD installed and Crutchfield says no harness is available. Anyone run across this? Looks like RichTheGeek put a DNX6990 in a 2012 and had great instructions.

I believe that a change in the firmware being shipped on more recent '13s has caused some issues with PAC harnesses. I don't know if the same is true with Metra harnesses, but I did see somewhere that Crutchfield were erring on the side of caution and basically saying that they couldn't offer any harness with guaranteed compatibility with a '13.

My recommendation would be to call or email PAC and Metra and ask them to provide a definitive answer as to whether they have a harness that's compatible with your vehicle. The PAC RP4-CH11 works perfectly in my '13 JKU with a build date of December '12; if your build date is prior to that I would say that you will be fine, if it's after that then I don't know.
