Headset audio jack for the rear

Has anyone installed a headset jack in their jeep from the main radio? I would like to be able to have my son listen to the radio and wear ear phones when riding in the back seat.

I haven't, but if I were going to I think I'd probably do it by installing a 3.5mm socket into the soundbar and splicing the cable into one of the speaker pairs.

The problem with that approach would be that the headphones would be controlled by the volume control of the HU. Resulting in it being too loud for the phones, or too quiet for the speakers.

How much of an issue would that be? I've replaced the stock speakers with units that aren't 2 ohm without issue.

That being said, what is your goal? Can your son not hear the radio from the back seat? Do you not listen to the radio while he wants to?

Actually it's the overdriving of the headphones. With the doors and top off you can't here anything on the freeway. I would like to have him wear headphones in the back and listen to music at a reasonable level. For that fact so would I.

I have done this basic thing before in that past, line output converter to phone jack.
I was wondering if anyone here had already done it and if so what did they use?
