Heater fan.

My fan motor works on low and the high settings but not the other two. What could this be? I have a 1999 wrangler.

Mostly likely cause of this would be a burnt out blower motor resistor it varies the speed of the blower motor by putting more or less resistance into the circuit

blower motor resistor

After searching WF, I was pretty sure my blower motor resistor was shot since the lower settings on my heat/ac don't work - only high. So, I got under the dash to check it out and found this:

Is this normal? The harness is completely melted on one half! I wonder if I replace/fix the harness - will I still need a new resistor? Or was it because the resistor went bad that caused the excess heat? I thought resistors failed "open" not "shorted"...

thanks,
josh

Here you go bud....this is a cut and paste from a post that I've posted for years.

""to remove heater control box for inspection""""

Remove the defrost vent cover , pull up on the far side not the middle. pops right off.
Remove the ashtray. Open it and push down on the tab on the inside and slide out.
Remove the screw behind the ashtray.
At the top of the center bezel where you removed the defrost vent cover,,,remove the 2 screws that hold on the bezel. Pull the whole center bezel off..pull right off.
The heater/ac controls will have a few screws holding it on...take them off.
Poof your done. and can inspect the controls.

READ through this WHOLE thread. And the links in post #10.
