HELLP headlight problmes

The headlight switch keeps going bad in my 89 YJ I just put in a new cd player and when you turn on the head lights the cd player goes off and the lights don't come on I would like to put a new after market switch in just not sure how any help would be great thanks. Josh

Are you sure the wires in the dash are truly the radio hot wires. I have put in dozens of stereos and never have heard that. Is your headlight switch in dash or ona stick?

Just had an after thought, have you checked your voltage? Maybe you have too much draw and not enough voltage. Also there are grounding points on the radiator support for the headlights, check those. Electricity will search out a ground if there is insufficient grounding. Just trying to help... good luck!

The headlight switch is stock all the grounds are good thanking maybe I should change the switch to a toggle switch .

I've done that too. Seems they always burn out or blow fuses though. Try removing the radio completely and see what happens. If all goes back to normal, then there is a problem with the radio wiring. If the problem still exists, try a new switch. Grounds can also look decieveing, just because it is connected does'nt mean it's grounded. It will actually oxidise inbetween and cause failure.
