Question HELP: Mystery Electronics/Wiring in Cab...

I recently purchased a 2003 Sport that has had at least two previous owners.

Along the way someone installed a lot of aftermarket electronics and electrics. Most have been pulled out, but there are little nipped off bits of wiring all over, even directly on the battery cable bolts. I am removing these as I discover them.

But this is too much for me to just yank out.

On both front firewall/floor pans there are little sensors or LED lights, applied with some type of double-sided tape or foam padding. They are about 1/4" to 3/8" square. They are black with a clear lens, with a diode or light in the center that is about 2 mm square, with what looks like a small circuit board beneath and a very fine wire trailing from the side.

There are like six on the passenger side and four on the other, all wires leading to the front edge of the center console. At that point there is a fistful of wires balled up with electrical tape wadded up in the mix; really sloppy work, like the kid was high or drunk when he installed the stuff. (Heh, heh, heh...)

At least a few wires trail off from the wad back under the center console toward the rear. I have not yet run them to see what they are tapped into.

I do not have any idea what they could be except really crappy floor lights. But these were covered by the carpeting, so whatever...

Any ideas? And how can I safely remove them if they are indeed spliced into the main harness somewhere?

Thanks!

I'll guess at mood lights. Fool around they might give a nice colored glow. The leads do need dressing though.

They are not stock and can be ripped out.

My vote is floor lighting too. Previous owner may have had different/no carpet in.

Put a 9V battery across one of the pairs and see what happens. Looks to me like lighting as well.

Yeah, im with everyone else... lighting.

They may have ran it without the carpets and put the carpets in to sell it. Or they liked having light shine out from between the carpet seams... who knows. People do weird sh$% with their vehicles.

Whatever it is, it is installed rather poorly and does not work. So to pull this sort of stuff I simply follow the wire back to wherever they are spliced in and remove them. Yes? No weird juju?

I have seen something similar, where the lights will actually flash with the beat of music! Not really needed on the trail!
