After intalling a new head unit and 6 1/2 speakers in the sound bar and 5 1/4 speakers in the dash, I still was lacking the lower bass. After shopping around I decided to build my own. I wanted to fit within the steel box that came with the Jeep when I bought it. Here is what I designed and wow what a difference. Its a 10 inch sub with a 300watt amp bridged. The speaker box fits snug into the steel framework and keeps the box from moving around. The speaker specs needed a box with a cubic feet of .7 to 1.0. My box is about .96 cubic feet inside and it seems to work well. The box has screws inside and outside making it super tight. Added some fluff on the back wall.
I have the dual 10 inch box from ebay, it fits and functions really well behind the rear bench seat in my TJ. I put some strong plastic speaker grilles on both speakers to keep them off of the back of the bench seat, which they were tapping. I am in the process of raising the rear seat mounts by about half an inch to fit the amp and capicitor that i have installed now.
Im putting washers under the front mounts, and moving and redrilling holes for the rear mounts using sheet metal screws. Im also having some custom bump stops for the bottom rear made that are taller out of nylon. I really want to retain my rear seat space and not intrude on the rest of the jeep.
Dual 10" thats got to have some good bass.Good idea on the seat, I havent anchored the amp down yet and under the seat is my favorite option to figure out.

Rear passengers already don't have enough room have you ever thought of modding the rear seat just for the amp?
That is another good idea to consider. That would keep it off the floor for carrying some gear. If all else fails and more room is needed then the seat would come out with the amp for a temporary time i guess.
i guess its a ok spot to put it but did he build a box i the seat or no cause if he didnt it probably don't really pound as hard as it could and probably wont last long their

I did the exact same thing in my tj this past summer, putting the sub inside the rear seat. It needs shallow mounts, so they dont get the deep bass you get with regular subs, but they pound alot harder. I put 1 10" memphis sub in there and that is all you need in a jeep. If you do it right you will get no rattles at all.
Oh and the ride in the back seat is ok for a trip around town, not for an all day ride i suppose though. but who wants to ride all day in the back of a wrangler anyways
