How do I get started with a CB?

Is there a kit that I can buy that will have everything I need right out of the box? Anybody have any recommendations?

I haven't seen the "entire" kit yet but you probably wouldn't want to pay for one anyway as "kits" get expensive quick!

So, what you'll need:

1. Radio. I have the uniden 520 and it works wonderfully.
2. Antenna (firestik, I have the 4')
3. Antenna cable (radio shack, I believe 16 or 18' coax)
4. Antenna Mount (I have the teraflex drivers side rear light mount)
5. Antenna mount spring (again, radio shack)
Note, just saying what you'll need and that the items I use work well for me. There are a lot of other options out there to look into as well.

After that, it's mounting and wiring the radio, running the antenna cable, mounting the antenna and connecting everything and then setting the SWR. Borrow or buy a SWR meter and use it to "typically" shorten the antenna.

The "hows" to set the SWR are here: CB Radio HELP!!

Hows this look? Is this all I need, I didnt think they would run this cheap.

Uniden Pro510XL Off-Road CB Package - $109.00

I wonder if I could upgrade to a 520.

that is the cb that i have. i love it. the firestick antenna took the abuse of all the trees and the reception on the cb was clear as day. $109 is a pretty good price. adam paid $130 for my cb and all of the accessories.

Wow, that is a good price for a 99% solution.

Only thing I recommend you add is the spring mount for the antenna (as seen int the hood mount photo in the link).

Gives the antenna some extra flex at the base where they want to snap off if bent too far.
