I have a problem

First off let me begin with, I am extremely indecisive. I have extremely hard times making up my mind, because i always fear that as soon as i do commit to something that im going to find something better somewhere else. With that said:

As i said in a previous post in someone elses thread, I bought a new JKU Sahara with the upgraded Alpine sound system, first time with the top off, I realized that upgraded alpine premium sound was more like a wisper in the wind. I began looking at upgrades. Using the forum, i read many reviews and other peoples escapades and decisions. I thought that i had made up my mind to upgrade the 4 speakers, throw a new amp to them, ACCEPTING that by not replacing the stock head unit, that i would not be getting utterly amazing change, but my end goal was just to be louder slightly deeper, and just better overall.

I was going to go with:

Alpine SPR-60
Alpine SPR-60C
LOC to keep the stock unit.
PDX - F4 ( i think, it was a 4 channel x 100 amp)

I went to a suggested Alpine dealer, and he gave me a price. It was slightly higher than i had anticipated, and i decided to just keep looking. I searched online and i found the same components for much much cheaper.

I was then informed that anything Alpine bought online, is not warrantied, and i would kinda somewhat maybe like to have a warranty just for the oh poop moments. That shifted me back to going to an Authorized dealer. I looked at the JL stuff, and it was either not that enticing, or more than the alpine stuff. I have had all alpine in the past, in 2003 - 2006, and its funny that their speakers and subs haven't seemed to have changed much at all in that time frame since then, although their amps do seem to have had a major overhaul. As you can tell im biased to alpine. I was decided i was going to go back to the dealer a few towns over, that had given me a quote, and see if i could negotiate it down.

I stopped at a place locally today, while waiting for my wife to get home, and just wanted to pick the guys mind. He steered me away from alpine, said they are great head units, decent amps, and ok speakers. Suggested i look more at the JL lines. I explained ....yada yada yada, i don't know where 45 mins went really, and then he comes out with, PHOENIX GOLD TI1600.5 and Phoenix Gold ti265CS component speakers. Suggests, gives me a price, which for 1 set of speakers, and this 5 channel amp, was equal to the price that alpine dealer gave me for 1 comp pair. 1 coax pair. 1 4 channel amp installed. I have never heard of anything decent from Ph G. but i have heard of hte name before. Googling just leads me to old reviews from 2011 that are mixed.

I need suggestions, advice, and why is it that everything i look up seems to have not been updated since 2011 (amps, speakers, subs, they all seem to be several years old, with out model year upgrades).

how much should one expect to pay retail for the alpine set up installed?

only benefit of the PG amp was that it had a mono 500 for the sub in the back, that i could just dump a new 8" and basically call that a day.

Listen to what you like and buy it online. Install it yourself or have a knowledgable friend come and help you and buy him beers and dinner. Who cares if it doesn't have a warrantee, you can easily replace a component if you ever have to with the money you save. I bet you will not have to replace anything for a couple years if ever as long as you don't abuse it.

I would look at the Alpine PDX-V9 instead of the PDX-F4. They are close in cost and the PDX-V9 is the 5-channel amp and has the sub channel of 500watts. Instead of just 4-100watts from the PDX-F4, you get 4-100watts+500watts sub channel with the PDX-V9. You don't have to decide on your sub, right away, but the channel is there and ready without adding another amp when you decide on the subwoofer(s). The difference in cost seems to be about $100, and I'm sure you will probably spend at least that much for a separate sub amp, and then you will have two amps instead of just one. So, you also save space with just one amp.
