I passed!

Just got home from taking my Tech Class Ham test. I'd been studying on line, on QRZ.com, and taking the practice tests. Most of the questions I got today, I'd never seen before but I passed anyway. This has been a good day.

Thank you, guys.
I can't wait to get my call sign. I probably won't do much talking but it's good to know that I can, if I want/need to.

Scout, Technician Class is the basic, beginner's class for Ham Radio operators. The next class is General, then Extra. I didn't need morse code but for Extra you do. I'm not sure if General needs to know morse code or not. Do you, Amerijeep?

If I got the explanation wrong, please correct me.

Nope, they dropped the code requirement.

Amy,

congrats! I got my Tech about a year and a half ago and just recently started talking it up. Finally got the radio installed and that made it fun.

You no longer need code for any license- not even Extra. You can, however, still do code if you like...

Skeeter already answered, but there is no longer a code requirement for HF. I only got code out of the way about a year before they dropped it myself.

Sorry, but I don't have another HT to pass on. I wish I did. It would be yours.

Thanks, Whiteyj. I can see how it would be addictive.

I'm official now! My call sign came through today. I'm KE7NIO. I'm a happy Ham.

Well done! Another skill/hobby to call for your time/money! Have fun! (cool thing to do, get a set up that you can patch into the phone and help the Military Affiliate operators let sailors/marines/soldiers call home!)

Thanks, JJ. Hmm, I'll have to check into helping our military call home. That sounds like a cool thing to do.

Looks like they require more equipment and capabilities than we have right now but I'm going to keep this in mind as our resources grow.
