Infinity subwoofer dimensions & replacement

Hello,

I have a 2012 Sahara, with the 10' Infinity sub built into the side of the trunk(stock upgrade). Does anyone know of a specific brand & size(depth dimensions) sub-woofer what would fit into the same stock encasing? I would love to upgrade the 10' sub-woofer and still utilize the encasing if possible. I have an additional amp to power a new sub. Any help/suggestions are much appreciated!

Its an 8 inch sub not a 10. Im planning on putting a JL audio 8w3 in the stock enclosure and feeding it with about 250 watts. Others have used this sub and were quite happy with the results. The JL sub only needs .30 cubic feet of internal space and I think the stock sub enclosure is close to that dimension. Im probably going to need a spacer but you can buy those for like $10 on ebay.

Not sure if it needs to be a shallow sub, if not my brother just got a sundown audio sa-8 v.2. It pounds harder than most 10" subs ive heard

Thanks for the size info, and the name of good sub to fit the existing box. I replaced all my interiors with powered Polk speakers and they jam, and now the sub definitely needs a little more quality bass. Replacing the tweeters too(which are positioned very well) really gives amazing sound. Good to know there is a clean sounding JL to fit, I appreciate it.

Have you installed that JL subwoofer? How well does it fit? I'm curious because im thinking about buying a new sub for my 07 Sahara and i dont want to go out and buy a $200 sub and have it not fit or have to make some major modifications to my new jeep.

The JL Audio 8w3 should actually fit perfectly in the existing 2012 8" sub tub. I took out the Infinity to check out the fit and depth of it when I installed my new audio system. I am currently using it with my JL XD 700/5 amp. It actually sounds OK. By no means can I even come close to giving it the power I want.

I am also waiting for the 8w3 to come into the sound shop so I can install. Should be in this week. Ill post up pics. Im not sure if it needs a spacer as I think the depth is OK.

OK so the JL Audio 8w3 fit perfectly in the Infinity subwoofer box of a JK2012.....I plan to use it with my Alpine PDX5.
But the Sundown audio sa-8 v.2,does it fit in the Jk enclosure....

I am a boomy lover but I dont want to sacrifice Cargo area with big boxes ans the JL stealth is kind of too much $$$$$$ ,gotta get some cash for other mods in my JK
Thanks

Mounting depth on the W3 is 4.84". Depth on the W7 is 6.84". I believe anything under 5" fits without a spacer. I almost think the W7 is too much for the sub tub.

Sorry it is a ring spacer. It goes between the sub and the box. It extends out the lip of the box to accomodate a longer length sub. The 8W3 is longer than the stock Infinity and a ring spacer is needed. You can grab one at any car audio sound place.

Hey, I'm about to order the JL 8w3 for my 2012 Wrangler - what amp power would be best to fit the sub? I appreciate any help, I was told an Alpine M500 would be a good fit, specs below. Too much power? Not enough? Thanks!!

Technical Details

  • Mono subwoofer car amplifier
  • 300 watts RMS x 1 at 4 ohms (500 watts RMS x 1 at 2 ohms)
  • Class D amp with MOSFET power supply
  • 10-11/16"W x 2-7/16"H x 9-9/16"D

Finally had JL 8w3 & amp installed today. You will definitely need an 8" Spacer to mount the sub. You can order them online or they can be custom built. The difference is incredible, as it is pure grown mans bass, very clean, zero rattling

bumping an old thread.

Does anyone know if the factory amp will power a JL 8w3v3.

Ive searched and could not find an answer.

I know an aftermarket amp is the way to go. My jeep is a lease vehicle, so wanting to spend little to no money as possible, but still looking for a little bit better bass. Im content w/ my speaker setup as my high's and mids are adequate for me. the bass is just terrible.

I'm sorry but your premise question doesn't meet your desired effect. In other words, it doesn't matter if the JL8w3v3 can be powered by the factory amp, you still can't get more bass, than the factory subwoofer, and depending on the ohms of the factory sub, you may even get less bass.

The only way to get more bass is to add an amp with more power.

But, to answer your question, yes. But, it won't reach the desired effect, it may even be quieter.

Chrysler has never given out specification information on their audio systems. The components are normally made especially for Chrysler, by big names like Infinity or Alpine. But, the quality isn't the same as their aftermarket products. If Chrysler gave out model numbers and specifications, people would probably be in an up roar, by the crappy numbers. Still, you can't hide a horrible audio system from the ears. This is why everyone is taking the factory components out, and putting in good quality equipment with known specifications.
