Hey Ya'll, I'm about ready to jump on a new CB setup for the rig (94 YJ Hardtop). It has none in it now; that's gotta change.
I live in the mountains near the AT and have to work/play/live in some hairy weather/locations from time to time. I need a radio more to receive NOAA than anything else, but comms out is good as there is a private PD close to where I work that monitors 9/19, so I'd like the best broadcast possible. Just in case. I know other comm systems are more reliable, this is the ol' trusty (READ: Backup).
I'm thinking about a Cobra 29 LX multi-color fancy radio and 102" whip, mounted pass. taillight and folded to above the pass. door. If needed, I could release it up for signal strength, but I would keep it rolled forward most times for travel.
I don't do the off road thing much, other than mild trail riding that I encounter in day to day stuff, so I'm not too worried about the "lash factor" against my YJ/spotters.
What do ya'll think? I've talked to local Jeepers with Firestiks on the tire mount, and they were less than enthusiastic about it compared to a 102.
Would leaving it in a rolled frwd position leave it strained, somehow compromising strength in/out?
Also, anybody know of a good place to get CB gear from? It's a good ride to the nearest truck stop for me.
Thanks guys, and I'm glad I found the forum. Lots of good info here.
Next will be the bumper/hitch/winch questions. HA. Converting from Yota's is like learning to drive again.
