Installed new speakers in my yj.

I installed new speakers and took a few photos, the only problem I ran into was I pulled the driving lights and alarm horn wires loose. It helps to have someone assist putting the dash and windshield back in place. I hope the pictures help.

What speakers did you use for replacement? Was this a hassle to get to the speakers? Thinking about tackling this job soon, any tips?

Yes - loosen the top dash screws (remove the lowers) and slide it slightly forward. Use little hands to exchange the speakers, go back together with new wing nuts instead of their cheap-o nuts. Do the pass side first. The dash does not need to be removed to replace the speakers.
