Mine is a vdp with the 2 6 inchers in it sounds pretty good also have infinity dash speakers 3 ways

I vote against the VDP soundbar. I bought the 3way 6" soundbar from VDP only about 2mos ago and am already upgrading to a system with amp and larger speakers. I think I even managed to damage one of the 6" woofers with a bottom end Sony head unit (no amp until now). Also couldnt really hear the music and what I did hear was gutless with the top off going more than 35mph or so.

I ran mine on the interstate 80 mph no top sounded good i could hear it maybe mine was built on a good day idnk

idk, maybe mine is the oddball, but I have not been impressed. I have exactly 1 datapoint and my opinion is worth exactly what you paid for it

also just out of curiosity where in central IL are you 89PBR96? I live in Metamora (NE of Peoria).

I think we talked about this before.
I know your Soundbar will hold 6.5" speakers just fine man.
(Have Faith Brotha) lol.
All it takes is a $5 drill bit if you don't already have one.
Save the extra dough that you'd spend on a new Soundbar,
and put it into better quality speakers.

This is my 98 Sahara Soundbar.
Seeee...they fit fine, no cutting.
You're still not gonna get much bass outa any Soundbar though.

Gramps is right. You need subwoofers in the back if you want serious bass. You also need an Obama sticker and dropped suspension.

hehehehehe, i don't do brainshaking bass neither will ever buy sw, never did. Just want little better quality sound. Just got Kicker speakers (70W) for the sound bar, they sound better than pioneers that was put it there, but still not good. I might move these kickers to the front, and install 6.5 inch ones I guess. According to the photo there are sticking out pretty bad though.

So do I take the whole soundbar off to mark the drill holes and drill or, you can do it while it is up there?

Naw, you can leave it in man.
It might be a little easier if you take it out.
That way you're drilling down instead of up, ya know?
I left mine in when I did it though.

All you have to do is screw the new speaker in place with one of the existing screws.
Mark where the other 3 new holes need to go,
Drill them out, and screw in you're new speaker.

The reason mine look like they are sticking way out is because of that particular casing and grill.
If you don't want them to do that,
buy something with more of a flush mount casing and grill.
Or don't use the casing and grill at all.

Yeah, but I also have 1100watts of power behind my stuff.
It's a little different.

I bought mine from offroadtoystore.com, but it looks like their website is down.
Try them later, or maybe do a google search.
Sometimes you can find some on ebay as well, but I won't vouch for the quality.
Some people are also making PVC adapters.
I'd stay away from those though.

It's pretty basic. All you're doing is cutting 1 piece from each side.
This is my dash. I used a Dremel. Done in no time.

I have 6.5 speakers in my dash and soundbar. They do a good enough job. I too made a template for the front speakers.
I've thought about upgrading for more bass but am scared it would be stolen plus I like the room behind the rear seat for stuff other than speaker boxes. Back in the day I used to drop the bass in all my rides but I'm way over that.
Most of the time I'm topless and doorless with the wind blowing so I look at it like I traded in great sound quality for the coolness of driving a Jeep.

Yeah, that HU should do fine for what you want.

The only thing is that you might experience some distortion the further you turn the volume up, because your speakers can handle more power than your HU is delivering.
If you bought a small 300w 4-channel amp,
it would definitely clean the sound up for you.
But you may not need it.
It all depends on the person, and how they like their music.

I would suggest to just buy the speaker adapters,
and the speakers that you like first.
Do the install, and see where you're at.
Putting 5.25" in the dash,
and 6.5" in the soundbar does make a difference.

If your still not happy with it,
then maybe look into a 300watt 4-Channel.
(75watts per speaker)
That may sound like alot, but it really isn't.
You said your new speakers are 70watts.
That's a good match - (depending on the ohms)

My bad. I just looked at them and I believe they're 5 1/4 in the dash.
It's been a few years so I forgot.

just a little note. Sony's stuff is called explode for a reason....its junk.

Speakers are damaged by not enough power, and too much volume (the combo causes distortion, burns the coils. So really its no surprise that you damaged the speakers with a low end headunit, cranking them up to hear it @ >35mph.

too much volume+ not enough power = blown speakers.

does the 5 1/4 speaker cause problems with the glove box opening? Also, I installed 6.5 Polk audio DB651's in the factory sound bar and they fit good. Just need to drill four new screw holes for each speaker.

i bought the vdp six speaker soundbar more than 6 months ago and run it off a kenwood deck. the sound is clear and it is more than loud enough. even with my top off, my after market exhaust i can still hear my music going 55-60 all the way to work. i would def recommend the VDP

I just looked at it, it looks like its plastic mold, is it covered wit fabric like existing sound bar?

Thanks for the info. I'll pick up some 5 1/4 speakers and get the outside diameter of the magnet so I can make a couple of mounting brackets on the CNC.

Well I bought some 22ga sheet metal from Home Depot and with the help of the online template I made up a version of this 5 1/4 speaker bracket. I made the diameter hole at 4 1/2 inches for my Clairon speakers. The fit was perfect! No mods to the Jeep at all. No frame to cut on a 2001 Jeep. On the passenger side there is no problem with the glove box opening or closing.

Do you have these speakers hooked up to an amp? I can fit almost any 6.5 3-way in the sound bar?
