iVault?

I was looking into upgrading my stock stereo for a new aftermarket head unit. Along with this I thought added security would be nice since the tops are off in the summer time. I came across the iVault on Qtec and thought it was an interesting product. I was ready to full the trigger and buy it right then when I figured I should check out WF first to see what people were saying about it. I seen a lot of people on here were complaining about the locking mechanism on it so I emailed the company to see if any improvements were made to remedy this problem. They replied to me saying that the locking mechanism and cover had been updated and approved. Before I purchase, has anyone bought one recently and has anything to say about it? Reviews?

All you need is a headunit with a removable face plate no one is gonna steal a unit without a face plate.

Call it laziness, but I don't feel like taking my faceplate off every time I leave my jeep and carrying it with me.

I don't have center console right now. Would I be better off to buy a center console or under seat lock box versus the iVault?

The under seat lock box is a good idea.

I always carry mine with me. I had a work colleague who did the same as you. He always took his with him, except one night. That night he locked it in his glove box. The next day, his stereo was ripped out and the glove box was busted and his faceplate was gone. Therefore, I really don't see the point of having a removable face plate if you don't take it with you. You never know who is watching you if you go to the mall, or go shopping somewhere.

I've had my car stereo stolen in the past. I guarantee you that your laziness will not be adequate compensation when you have to replace your entire dash and your radio, plus your feeling of being violated.

No! You will be better off getting a removable face. A thief can easily tell there is a good prize under that vault. Crow bar to your window, crow bar to the iVault, and crow bar to the dash, and its gone. If you have ever seen windshield glass, spewed along the side of the curb, you know what happened there.

And, with the top off, its just a crow bar to the iVault. And you know from television that these car thieves have special tools besides just a crow bar.

With a removable face, the typical, drug addict car stereo thief, won't waste their time. He has to get a faceplate before he can sell it. He has to determine the exact model and spend $35 dollars to get one, and find a store that happens to have one in that particular model. The trouble and the lack of profit isn't worth it to them. The normal stolen radio sells for $40-50.

Oh yeah, and replace your windshield. I remember when my gf had to sit in the passenger's seat, and the passenger windshield had been busted and my radio was stolen. She had an awful attitude in the car that night. I had to use garbage bags and duct tape in the window until I got paid so that I could fix it. It does not feel good.

(Is this like talking to yourself? Or answering yourself?) eek, am I crazy?!

Thanks for the response,
I can defiantly tell you're pretty passionate about this lol. Around here we don't have many thieves, and the ones we do have are more of opportunist than anything else. If something is unlocked and in the open they will get it, if there is work involved they are out. Really I was just going to get the vault as a deterrent. I know it's security isn't that great, I was just curious if the quality had gotten better. Right now my decision is to get a lockbox for under the seat and stay away from the iVault. Too many bad reviews on quality.

I found a $100 car stereo by Jensen, that has Bluetooth, USB, AUX, CD, remote control, and a removable face. This is the best way to go. A deterrent reduces the possibility, but it is best to remove the interest. When, you say opportunists, you mean that thieves are watching you. It only takes one opportunist, watching you. I prefer to remove their interest. This is what a removable faceplate does.

Once you've had your car stereo ripped out, your dash destroyed, and your window smashed, you'll be passionate about it too, and you won't think it is humorous. This I can guarantee you.

And, it doesn't happen in bad areas, because poor people can't afford great car stereo systems. These thieves drive to the good areas, checking out the Lexus's and the Mercedes Benz, and the fancy cars, waiting for someone to drive by with a blasting stereo, and they watch them. They may even sit at the mall. They walk around looking in the cars. You see it on television all the time. Or, you go downtown shopping and you park on the street, and you see these people standing around, obviously not shopping. I've come back, and I've seen these people standing right next to my passenger door. I like to go shopping to get the best deals, so I go to shady areas sometimes. It's actually kind of a thrill. Or, what happens if your car breaks down in one of these areas? You pull off the highway to get gas. Preparation is the key. The pain of having your property violated, and having to spend a $1000 dollars for repair, is nothing funny. Especially when your stereo was only $100-$300 dollars. God forbid, if you have a $700 car stereo without a removable face.

I'm not angry, I just want you to know. I would die if someone violated my Jeep this way. We all have Jeeps here, so I feel the same for you.
