JL Audio HO 12inch wedge subwoofer

I was very unhappy with my infinity audio system in my JKUR as are most people. I had previously changed out the the stock speakers with Polk DBs and kept my stock 730n nav unit. I also did the JL Audio 8w3 in the stock sub enclosure and was happy with the sound. I dynamatted the inside and backside of the enclosure in addition to sone of the surrounding body panels. Sound was good but I gotta be honest, its been deteriorating. Its not the JL sub, its that hoorible plastic enclosure. Its just not made to handle a high power sub with 250 watts going to it. It rattles more and more and squeeks on low bass notes. The glued seems are probably letting go inside the enclosure. Ive given up on it. In addition, I need more bass. I got too accustomed to the 8w3. Ive resorted to looking into an external sub enclosure. Ive always been a JL fan so Ive found their HO wedge which comes with either a 10w3 or a 12w3. I didnt want to put an external sub in due to the theft factor but I think I can minimize the theft by making a cargo cover which will cover the cargo area so any prying eyes will not be able to see whats inside. Anybody out there with some feedback or pics of these JL subs?? Thanks

Dave

I had 2 12" w3 in a ported enclosure previously and hands down best subs ive ever owned and I've had several. They don't hit as hard as some other but the clarity of the sound is amazing and that's more what I look for. It still hits more than enough unless your looking for competition sound but for an every day driver you'll be more than impressed I had an alpine 5 channel 1000w amp on the subs and my complements as well.

I also had a dual 12w3 setup in the JL HO box stuffed in a Scion tC. I had 600watts on the pair and it was pretty loud and sounded really good.

I installed a single 10W6 in a small sealed 1.0 cf box(takes up very little space) and its powered by a Kenwood eXcelon XR-1S(for its power and small size) ran in 2ohms and it hits VERY hard and very clean. I highly recommend this setup.

Well Ive installed the JL 12w3 HO ported wedge and all I can say is wow. Its been years since Ive put music on that brings a smile to your face because it sounds so good. My original rockford fosgate amp that I used with the 8inch JL was not 2ohm stable when bridged so I replaced it with a Pioneer 500w class D amp. Shout out to BestBuy.....they matched amazons price which was $80 cheaper then BestBuy. They price match select online retailers now so keep that in mind before you buy. The amp mounted right up in the plastic tub in the back and since its a class D it barely gets warm. My old rockford would leave burn marks on your hand it got so hot. To sum it up, the 12inch Jl is not even close to being in the same class as the 8 inch. Not that the 8 didnt sound good because it did. Its just that the 12 delivers so much more to the low frequency spectrum. Ill take pics later and post.....the enclosure doesnt take up too much room and its easy to remove should I need extra room.

Good choice and yes the 12" is night and day over the 8" although its not fair to judge them against each other. Enjoy the tunes!
